Well, I have traveled frequently and Europe and I believe this is a myth perpetrated on Americans to make us buy all new clothing when we travel. Here is how it works: Very expensive, well tailored clothing. No sneakers or running, tennis, etc. shoes unless you are doing that activity. At least one gold chain. Pay attention to cut and color, fabric and texture. Jeans are okay, but they should be really good ones - like armani. Have a classic blazer.

In most of England and the continent these days people dress as they do here. I see alot of trainers with track suits, even at restaurants. Old Italian professional males, and french as well, still get up and put on a shirt and tie.

Watch television news and movies, do you see how the Brits dress, it generally is pretty practical versus fashionable? Unless you are staying on Saveille Row, I would try to affect a classic "casual, but neat" look. An adult preppy feeling. Look at how Harry and WIlliam are attired. It is simple and classic. In France it is a bit different , especially if you are going somewhere fashionable. Men all seem to have this blue, windbreaker that they sport. Loafers and no socks, the knotted sweater, white shirts - button down, Zegna or Canali slacks, black (good quality - like Aboud) tee shirts. But, if you are concerned about this, I am willing to bet you already dress nicely and are well groomed. Two - three weeks before, have a facial with peel. THat week get a manicure (no polish, just a buff). Best of luck.

why don't you just wear jeans and a shirt - you will be fine. Don't worry.

simple......guys there wear 2 kinds of pants (im armenian i know what im saying) 1 they wear jeans (armerican) or they wear tights like squeaky pants but i recomend jeans and you should wear one of those collared and buttoned down all the way shirts (kind of like the dress shirts) and i recommend black (except if its sunny then white with strips)

that's pretty easy:
1. in summer wear a white 3/4 pants or a bermuda pant
2. in winter jeans r ok but u need 2 combine them with smth (a shirt which fits with it!) not every pants fits with every shirt!!
3. wear designer stuff (europeans look pretty much on that!!, & choose international designers (e.g. in europe hardly any1 knows abercrombie & fitch, american eagle or hoolister, while in California everybody knows them!)
4. use accessoires (a nice watch with a leather band, a stylish chain around ur neck, & sun glasses!!! very important!) we in europe don't use that much hats as ppl in america
5. look 2 sm designers online

oh...& i forgot smth:

the shoes r very important!! forget the white american sports shoes! wear sm nice mokasins, or casual shoes (like converse!!)

london and paris they dress kind of like americans except a bit nicer........they dont really wear polo shirts all htat much......more into button up or nicer shirts....but you cant go wrong with a tshirt and jeans.....as long as its not a American Pride shirt

Nice slacks are best.. if you MUST go in blue jeans, make sure that they are not the torn type that sell here for a lot of money. If a shirt, tuck it into your trousers, t-shirts WITH a color is preferable and a nice leather jacket is really a nice thing in Europe.. YOu can wear a nice leather jacket and blue jeans with ease.. Do not have a stupid camera hanging around your neck

Being tall, slender and white is a nice start. :-)
A little tip: Lose the sneakers(unless jogging!), the baseball cap and the white t-shirt with baggy pants.
Europeans wear comfy, but elegant clothes and shoes all day long, especially in Eastern Europe, where women are much better looking than Britain and France...
If you want to blend in well, sit in a small cafe and sip black coffee for hours, read a paper or a book or just do some people watching. Cover your mouth when sneazing, never eat with your hands, even if it's a pizza or a sandwich. It's gross and very unhygienic...
But I'm sure you know most of these already, since you are asking such a good question. Have a fab time, Europeans actually like Americans, so you don't need to hide...:-)

Wear some T shirt WITHOUT American flag on it,as far as I know from my 25 years living in Europe,guys like to wear jeans and cargo pants,no jogging pants,no hockey jersey,have some nice shirt and T shirt with you and you can't go wrong with it.

They wear chinos / jeans and nice shirts....bright colours. Boat shoes are fine. Dont be overly worried about it. Though they will spot you immediately when you open your mouth. Its ok. Have fun
