The first person, Blur, is correct. I've been there a few times, Wroclaw that is, and it is a great city.

I have been there and I was also surprised by it's prounciation. Blur is correct!

The "w" is pronounced like a "v" in English and the "l" is pronounced like a "w" in English. So, with that:
Vr(roll it a bit)oh-tswahv.

tryingmypatience
Vrots waav - W's are prounounced as v's
Seriously! - This is how my Polish born husband pronounces it and he is from a town in Wroclaw.
And!!! We were just there a couple of weeks ago! Lovely city.

Just to get in on the discussion! In this word, the W (as always) is pronounced 'V'; the 'L', were you to see it written in 'real Polish' has a hash mark through it, which means it is pronounced as our English 'W'... Not all 'L's are pronounced that way. So, the answers that correspond to: 'Vrots- swaf' (or some similar phonetic trasliteration) are correct.

Here's a paste off of the Polish train sched web site to illustrate the differences in the 'L's...
Warszawa Centralna
Wrocław Główny

The 2nd reference is an excellent one for Polish pronunciation... which is not easy (for those of us un-lucky enough to be non-native speakers)!

I think the main controversy you're seeing in your answers is due to this 'L' business...

This is getting amusing! Of all the people who have a) been there; b) know Polish; c) are from there... all in agreement, basically, all getting thumbs down! Have fun guys!

More info than you probably want to know about it....http://www.answers.com/wroclaw

Rowlaw.. 'w' and 'c' are silent, I believe..
