Mark

How will you feel and what will you do if you meet someone from the midnight express?

I am asking because that movie created a bad image for Turkey. I would like to see how the Turks will react in such an occation.

Hi Mark,
Yes you are right, the movie created a bad image for Turkey. We all felt frustrated. But even in this situation the movies of Oliver Stone were aired in Turkish movie theaters. No censor whatsoever. We watched all the movies of a director and producer who contributed negatively to our country's image. We did not protest him. Maybe we should. But we didn't. That's how naive we are.
The links Çetin provided are very useful.

I seem to be one of the only people who felt that if you do the crime you serve the time.

He knew the score when it came to drug smuggling and prosecution.

OK, the whole brutality thing was out of order, but if you don't want to be banged up in jail in a foreign country, don't break their laws, simple as that.

Hi Mark,

We are not Vindictive People ...

Oliver Stone or Bill Hayes can come to Turkiye ...

You must know, Oliver Stone said 'Sorry' for this film and Billy Hayes explained everything for this Movie ...

So, There is no Problem ...

Trotsky vs Kerensky- НекIо!
I guess you people think Midnight Express was a piece of art or some fine example of breathtaking German expressionism. The movie is like 30 years old. Any dumbass basing his/her conception of the real world on hollywood movies would certainly not be in my area of interest. Let them color their bodies green, attach two antennas on their heads and ride on a donkey or let them think Turkey is just like how it was showed in the movie. I don't see any difference between the two.

I don't know... How would I feel if I met Frodo the hobbit or Saruman the white wizard in real life? These are the important issues that I am pondering on nowadays. (I would definitely pull Saruman's beard, OMG it's so freakin' cool!!)

Why did you unblock me? Need some witticism?

Answer: Well, Turkish media has met with the director of the movie, Alan Parker, and Parker expressed his sorrow over the malintentioned propaganda based on this fictional film.

And Turkish media met with Billy Hayes and Hayes said the book and the film were exaggerated to attract attention.

But personally, I couldn't care less about meeting Parker or Hayes. For me, they have committed the crime of racism and condemning a whole nation. No amount of apology can erase that.

As for wanting to meet someone, I would like to meet with Elrond and ask him what the meaning of all this is, really.

If l see oliver stone, l would ask him to these questions,
1 are you hate from turks?
2 why did you make a movie, with full of lies and hostile about the Turks?
3 When the european people see this movie, they will get a bad expect about Turkish people.

NOT: l know that, it isn't a reason to do bad things to a person but that guy was a drug dealer.
NOT:Midnight Express is coming from real story and when this guy was in turkey, he said; l am regretful about that because of it isn't real truth about my real story
NOT: If u affaid of the turkish people after you watched the Midnight Express. What do you think about USA? They have a lot of movies like that, maybe the aliens can catch you or a meteor can drop on your head...!! If we talk about the real life, USA have some racism and there is many crime happens in USA... On the other hand, many people think that, all the muslims are the terrorist, do you think it is real? or many people are thinking that, all the european are gay, do you think it is real? I don't think so...
Do you have any idea for whats happening in Iraq or Afghanistan... A lot of innocent dying everyday.. it isn't a story, it is absolute real life...
Also, I can give more and more example... like many Bosnia herzogevina citizens killed by Serbs or Algeria suffered by frenchs..

hi Mark,
i recommend , everyone to watch these videos about this dirty propaganda movie:

jello
the movie was probably made to keep westerners out of turkey and turkish government had no problem with that. nowadays, particularly in the last couple of years, there is an influx of advertisement here in the usa to visit turkey.

propaganda/advertisement/media works both ways for whatever the government wants at the time. to keep people out or call them to visit.

never saw the film myself but 30 years ago i was told turkey was nothing but a desert.

IMO this film showed that people smuggling drugs get punished. there are far worse prisons than a Turkish one. If it makes people think twice about committing a crime while abroad then that's good thing. The film didn't turn me against Turks when I watched it, it just portrayed the message that you must respect another country's laws.
Anyway, if my hubby was to meet anyone from the film then he would be able to differentiate between acting and reality. you can't get angry at an actor because of a role he plays

Alan Parker already apologised for the hatred he created and he admitted he deliberately created a fake image of Turkey (for the sake of commercial profit and funds from the racist armenian diaspora)

the guy whose life was based on the story: William Hayes also apologized from the Turkish people for all the lies he told

The Turkish are great nation! We forgive them

P.S. Turkish friends who think Oliver Stone was the director of that movie.. Pls check your records or visit imdb.com to find out who is the real director.

luckyman
what a pain in the buttt?that you cant forget this movie.it was filmed in Morocco(4 hours flight to Turkiye)The actors were Armenians and Greeks and greek cypriots.
we shagged those nations once we ruled them and they just cant forget.
this i what i mean pain in the butt.
Look we feel as tuff as 100 years a go.give it up.
