Totally Blunt
Northern Cyprus, which was saved by Turks against Greek Cypriot aggression, has a sweeter life style than most metropolitans. If you want to go there, I would suggest you to be careful with the language.

I'm not sure your aim isn't to slander Turks, though. These questions sound more like a bait than sincere ones.

It's different in the Northern part of Cyprus compared to the south. The Northern part is where the Turkish live, while the southern part of the island is where the Greek live. The Turkish are Muslims while the Greek are Orthodox Christians

The Mad Greek
The Question was correct since the occupation was/is illegal.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) (Turkish: Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti, KKTC), commonly called Northern Cyprus, is a de facto independent republic, located in the north of Cyprus. The TRNC declared its independence in 1983, nine years after a Greek Cypriot coup attempting to annex the island to Greece triggered a Turkish invasion of Cyprus. It has received diplomatic recognition only from Turkey, on which it is dependent for economic, political and military support. The rest of the international community, including the United Nations and European Union, recognise the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over the whole island. The TRNC and Turkey, citing the constitutional breakdown of 1963, state the Republic of Cyprus no longer carries legitimate authority.

The Turkish Army maintains a large force in the TRNC, which the Republic of Cyprus regards as an illegal occupation force; its presence has also been denounced in several United Nations Security Council resolutions. Attempts to reach a solution to the dispute have so far been unsuccessful. In 2004 a UN backed plan to reunite the island was accepted by Turkish Cypriots in a referendum, but rejected by Greek Cypriots.

The TRNC extends from the tip of the Karpass Peninsula (Cape Apostolos Andreas) in the northeast, westward to Morphou Bay and Cape Kormakitis (the Kokkina/Erenköy exclave marks the westernmost extent of the TRNC), and southward to the village of Louroujina/Akıncılar. The no man's land or buffer zone stretching between the two areas is under the control of the United Nations.

On the 20th of July 1974, Turkey launched a military invasion by air, land and sea against Cyprus purportedly to restore constitutional order following an Athens orchestrated coup by the Cypriot National Guard against the President of Cyprus, Makarios III.

Though Turkey had consistently refused to recognize Makarios or his Government as legitimate, it claimed that under the provisions of the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee which provided that Greece, Turkey and United Kingdom would ensure the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus, it had the right to take unilateral military action purportedly to restore constitutional order. No international body or organ has recognised this position.

Today, Turkey states that in 1963 the Republic of Cyprus had collapsed, however claims that the Treaty of Guarantee of 1960, gave her the right to invade in 1974. Article Four of the Treaty of Guarantee states that: "each of the three guaranteeing Powers reserves the right to take action with the sole aim of re-establishing the state of affairs created by the present Treaty.”
Article Four of the Treaty of Guarantee refers to the right of intervention, however it does not refer to military intervention because according to the United Nations Charter, no state has the right to intervene militarily in another state without the consent of the UN Security Council
The Cyprus Government has always supported the above position and called upon Turkey, which doubted it, to recourse, together with Cyprus, to the International Court of Justice at The Hague for a decision on whether Turkey legally invaded Cyprus. Turkey, however, refuses to do so
Turkey invaded Cyprus in two waves on the 20 July and 14 August occupying 37% of the island's territory contrary to a series of UN Security Council and UN General Assembly resolutions demanding the end of all military action in Cyprus and the removal of the Turkish Army from the island.

After the first wave of the invasion constitutional order in Cyprus was restored with Glafkos Cliridis, the leader of Cyprus Parliament taking over as interim president until the return of Makarios III. The Turkish military, however, continued with the second wave.

The result of the invasion was the creation of an internationally unrecognized Turkish Cypriot breakaway state in the areas under Turkish occupation and the displacement of over 160,000 Greek Cypriots who made up the majority of the population of these areas. The invasion also led to the displacement of about 50,000 Turkish Cypriots who left the areas under the control of the Republic of Cyprus moved to the areas under Turkish military control and settled in the homes and properties left behind by the Greek Cypriots. Many of them did so clandestinely, defying a Cyprus Government imposed ban which aimed at preventing the separation of the Cypriot population along ethnic lines.

Today, although Turkish Cypriots have full free movement and settlement rights throughout the island as citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, Greek Cypriots are still being prevented from returning to their homes and properties in the Turkish occupied areas.

The only ones that recognize Northern Cyprus is Turkey. Be careful any degree you may get there may be useless.

Lived in Cyprus in the '80's for 4 years & we had to apply for visas to go for a day visit (or longer if you stated so) to the north & ironically we only lived 500m away from a main checkpoint in the british army base of Ayios Nikolaos. Remember their was always turkish soldiers carrying guns on patrol everywhere & you had to carry your passports & documents incase you were stopped. A real feeling of oppression was evident but I was young (14) so might have been seeing things more innocently. My in laws used to holiday there every year & loved it so everybody is different. I still holiday in Cyprus but do the more popular resorts. Things may have changed since I was there but still no doubt there is a lot of hard feelings against the greek & turkish cypriots.

Just to change tack...... I met my now husband in Kyrenia and fell in love with TRNC. Its a beautiful place and the people are very kind and friendly. I've been several times and thoroughly enjoyed each time I've been there. As for studying there, get in touch with the Uni, I'm sure they'd put you in contact with other people studying there and you can find out a bit more.

Is this a sincere question about studying in north Cyprus, or is it a provokation to attack Turkey and Turkish Cypriot. Please re-word your question and I will gladly provide you inbiased information about my country and the universities here.

Not occupied.. You should first learn then claim... Do not force me to write about Greek war crimes in Anotolia and genocide in Cyprus...

Kickinkitty
It is a beautiful, historic and friendly place. The weather is amazing even now and the Turkish Cypriot people are a dignified and generous race.

Sadly most of the world does not know that there are two sides to the Cyprus story, and Turkish Cypriots suffered greatly. However, the truth is spreading and international recognition for this land may not be far away - and that is a good thing.

occupied??? north cyprus is a country itself

andreas
If you are planning to study there, then i'm truly sorry for you...
The "country" itself is internationally unrecognized, and you expect "universities" to be real??
Don't waste 3-4 years of your life there, you will regret it..
