..Tolia..

Hrant Dink (Turkish-Armenian journalist) shot dead in Istanbul. Consequences for Turkey?

How this fact will affect your country's international affairs? With Europe?

nihil
Good question Tolia.

I was always watching him on the television and I was agreeing with him. He was not a one-sided thinker he was objective and all he wanted was democracy and peace for this country.

This is an attack on Turkey's democracy and unity. Some people really don't want to see a fully democratic Turkey because it will block their profit and status quo.

An Armenian offical unfortunately said following this assasination Turkey should not be accepted to EU. This is what I was afraid to hear and I fear as long as the sick mentality after the murder survives, it will survive.

All we want is democracy, peace and stabilization for this country but some forces never give up ruining it.

I don't care about international affairs at this point. He is a great lost for my country. I just hope this won't cause more anger and hatred.

It's such a disgrace and shame on my country's people. I'm ashamed of what happened today. But I'm also ashamed of what caused things to come to this point. Lots of people have responsiblity in this. Stupid politicians, journalists who made him a target for these brainless creatures and kill him just because he said "something".

Shame shame.

Hrant Dink was not a favorouble figure for racist Turks.Well, no matter which ideology they follow, 99.9% of all Turks refuse genocide.I also dont accept the idea of genocide.Hrant Dink was trying to bring it on whenever he had the opportunity. But he was also trying to be objective. This is why Turkish people respected him and now we are all sad for his sudden death.Unlike other Armenians, including the President of Armenia, he was trying to put his ideas on a rational scale and was not accusing us but trying to make us admit something that never happened.I respected him and will always do. He was a wise man.

This, of course, is the best opportunity for those who want to keep Turkey out of EU.Well they will not let us in anyway so we did not lose anything. What we lost is a valuable brain and our reputation.

I don't see this as an international issue, its a national issue, Its very sad whats happened and shouldn't of happened..I believe that there are lessons we all can learn from what happened in istanbul, "nationalism is not a way"...thats for anyone in the world, its strange that when things like that happens in the west thats an individual problem but when it happens in Turkey or eastern countries its an international issue...There are good Armenians and good Turks, I think its our responsibility to stop this pointless arguments and leave the past alone, live in peace as brothers and sisters...
A journalist should not be murdered for what he said or write if one didn't like what he said they didn't have to read it a few fanatics from both sides (Turkish and Armenian) spoils it for the rest of us...
Hrant Dink wanted just peace in my opinion as he once said "Turks are Doctors of Armenians and Armenians are Doctors of Turks" Lets heal each others wounds and show the old generation we don't want to take no part in their arguments...

To many Turkish people Europe is a nightmare more than a dream. So although some typical jurnalists are very worried about the consequences of the incident, common people worry about the possible consequences for the relations between the Turkish Armenians and Turks. This land has always been the land of conflicts and some tragedies as it has a diverse population and as it's geopolitically highly important. But we want peace in our country. Noone can make us another Iraq!!!

cordial
After his death tens of thousands of Turkish people (majority of these were Muslims of course) gathered in squares of Istanbul to protest this barbaric act.
I hope everyone will see that a vast majority of Turkish people want peace with Armenia, Greece and all other nations of the world.

I really don't care about Europe at this stage but rather worried that there are still untolerant people living in Turkey that believe the way to solving a conflict is by violence.

i hope they will catch this murdered as soon as possible and declare all the world what kind of person he is, the values he defends and the motives he has. I hope this will also show my people that this way of nationalism and racism is doing no good for anyone.

semra d
i am very sad for this it wouldn't happen
he is different from other armenians first of all he is a turkish citizen and loves turkey and us
of course it affects our affairs with europe but i don't care
he is a great loss for us:((
i pray for him..

qwine2000
It is a very sad thing.I am thinking of his family and the Turkish liberal voices.I am Greek but I will not take the opportunity to accuse Turkey. It is obvious and well known that there are powers in Turkey who have the coverage to make criminal acts.in
order to promote their interests
Dear Turkish friends the only solution is a full type Democracy
The mullahs must stay in their mosques and the Generals in their barracks

Moosty
Hrant Dink was a Turkish citizen not a European !
This question should first be asked especially to the French and other Western parliaments who voted for so-called Armenian Genocide in the last 10 years which is supposed to have happened a 100 years ago, instead of voting against Britain in their Parliaments which is an invader in Iraq right at the moment. This was what they wanted, to provoke hatred out of a century.

And what a coincidence, this happened just after Turkey criticized Iraq policies of Britain/USA openly for the first time in the last 4 years of present government, which has been obeying like a puppet to everything they have been dictating to them until now.

They are the original killers of this Turkish-Armenian writer who was not at all a disliked figure within Turkey in general. We have no problems with the Armenian-origin citizens living in our country.

I do not think this has anything to do with the Turkey's relations with the Europe-unless I am totally wrong, if it was not effect when dozens of Turkish diplomats were killed by the Armenian terrorists in 1970's. Why should it if they are really sincere, 30000 people got killed by PKK supported by many European countries. Their lives were not less valuable because they were not Christians, I believe. We are in a position to revise our relations with Europe because of the murder of a Turkish citizen, not them.

Leonarda
It will not affect them, have all the other events of the past affected Turkey?No...If the big forces want...they will make them enter.

Irmak
I don't care about Europe. They will just say 'It's very bad for Turkey.Turkey must arrest the murderer etc. etc. etc.'

I'm just sad for that.

HOTTürk
So sad. He was really a good journalist and he have been killed just for his being neutral.

Türkiye's international affairs?
He have been killed right on time that we were perfect to join the EU!!! No no, joke of corz. I believe the EU will never welcome us.

He have been killed only to put the so-called genocide on the agenda again, it was forgotten as u know. And unfortunately I have to say he was a very good target for the agenda.

So sad, pray for him...

El Chris
Hrant Dink is a big loss for the Armenian community in Turkey. Many Turkish citizens have good heart but politicians and nationalist Turks destroy the good reputation of the country worldwide. He was targeted, first because he was Armenian, journalist, outspoken, neutral on politics and most importantly because he spoke about the Armenian Genocide. The government was after him, not enough the murderers. Ohran Pamuk was going to get this too, he got treatened and backed up. Turkey will be watched very closely worldwide to see how it will handle such a big problem within its country. Consequences will be more hatred within the Armenians and Turks. God bless his soul. I hope people will wake up and get rid of article 301, and accept responsibility of the fact that Armenian Genocide is a fact you cant do anything about it, its the past. More and more innocent lifes are being lost and it will never end. Armenians and Turks have the same food, same music, almost the same people, whats the problem?

naughty boy
it will not effect our europe matter so seriously.. anyway, ı didnt use to like him.. because he is an armenian.. just like others.. his soul may rest in peace but this will not change my opinions about him.. ı know, all armenians are thinking now that turkey is still making a genocide on armenia.. but no! this is a lie..

melisa
It will not affect anything if the murderer is found.
In the past more than 30 Turkish ambassadors were killed by Armenians, and it is their turn to weep...

Spartan
That ignorant murderer is the real face of turks and their complex about "their" country and their history.
