hi
there ARE english school you can go to! dont worry.. it will be easier for you if you can learn some greek but you will be ok!
You can check out the American College of Greece at
http://www.acg.edu/acg/start.php
their classes are in Greek but they have alot more hours of English classes than regular schools! their hours are 8:30-3:30
another option is ACS. i think they do ALL their classes in English. you can take a look here: http://www.acs.gr/
But you need to keep in mind that both these schools are rather expensive (for Greece) i would say the american college is about $3000-5000 a year.
Both these schools are in Agia Paraskevi. its in the northern part of Athens so if you were to go to one of those schools and want to be close you can look for places to stay in Chalandri, Agia Paraskevi, Cholargos.
here is a map of athens and agia paraskevi
http://travel.yahoo.com/p-map-485166-map_of_agia_paraskevi-i

i hope this helps! have a wonderful time in Greece. im sure you will love it! good luck!

There are several suburbs of Athens where you will fit in perfectly.
Varkisa
Glyfada
Kiffisa
Sorry, when you are looking up these towns, spelling varies depending on the website or map, but they are all suburbs of Athens.
Glyfada is my favorite.

Also, there are "American" schools there. the person that told you that you would be forced to learn Greek in a hurry was not exactly correct. the differerence is that the "american" schools are not that cheap...

Depending on the school level (Gymnasium or Lyceum) lessons begin no later than 8:30 am and no sooner than 8:15 am.

Ending of the day is around 1:30 pm to 2:00pm, depending to the school (local limits are set due to geographical restrictions) and lessons load (some schools have extra lessons applied).

Best place to live?
Depends.

If you like air pollution, heavy traffic, loads of people around Athens is your place.
If you like the above but at a smaller scale, Thessalonica is your next best choice.
If you just enjoy the heavy traffic but without the air pollution, practically any other city in the mainland is safe to move to. :-)

Go to the site listed below. Then, look in the left hand column, under "Greece schools"...... there are quite a few listed. Click on each link to find out more about the school.

Hi,
I think there are only private english speaking schools, if you can afford them.
Search in Thessaloniki and Athens.
Consult your empassy in Greece, also english emplassy etc.
Good luck. If you have to go to a Greek school, try first some institutes of Greek language and better prepare yourself before you get here. (Look at www.rosettastone.com for an easy self teaching method, there are others too).
Good luck

Hi
As you are 15 now I would suggest you finish comprehensive school (if you are from UK) and leave at 16 (if you must) as Foreign schools in Greece are private and very expensive - plus you won't be familiar with the system, so you may find the lessons confusing and difficult.

Think carefully before you and your nan make the move - Greece is not all beach, sun, sand etc - it's also work, health system, expensive living.
Do you and your nan have the means to live without earning money. If your nan is older - does she have a decent pension / health insurance which can be transfered to Greece. There's lots to think about before making a move as both of you are at critical life changing ages. I was 21 when I moved to Greece (alone) but I still feel I was wayyyyy too young!

Take me with you! Please! I don't wan to be here anymore! I've been to greece many times. There are some brritish -english schools in Athens my cousin went to but I am not sure what the names are. Kids usuallu start school there in September and school finished in June, like the U.S. it is a month off. We have August to May each year. Times, I think they start at 7:30a.m. til about... 2:30 -3p.m. I think. Some kids also go to night schools too. Good luck buddy! I wish I was lucky enough to go too. We moved there 1 1/2 years agao and only stayed for 6 months b/c we could find a job. Also let you family know if you live in U.S. and move there it will be very difficult to find jobs. Greek people there think a little differently about greek people in the U.S., that was the problem w/ us, most of them hate us greek americans so I have been going there for vacation only and ended up staying here in U.S. I wish you good luck in your future though! LOL! Filia!

Sorry to disappoint you but all lessons are done inn Greek. Although english is taught in most schools as a second language the school curriculum is in Greek.
So, any place you go to you will face the same problem. You have to learn Greek and you have to do it fast.

DO U SPEAK GREEK, OR AT LEAST UNDERSTAND?
I JUST MOVED BACK FROM GREECE, AFTER LIVING THERE FOR A YEAR. ALTHOUGH I UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE IM NOT QUITE FLUENT.. IT WAS PRETTY DIFFICULT FOR ME... I HAVE A 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO I ENROLLED IN AN ALL GREEK SPEAKING SCHOOL, SHE ADJUSTED VERY WELL, CUZ SHES SO YOUNG, BUT THE ENGLISH SCHOOLS WITH GREEK AS ASECOND LANGUAGE IS AVAILABLE, BUT VERY EXPENSIVE. THERE IS ONE IN ATHENS, SOMEWHERE AROUND PIREAUS N GLYFADA... BUT IM NOT EXACT... BUT TO ANSWER UR QUESTION, ATHENS WOULD BE THE BEST PLACE TO FIND A SCHOOL, IF, U HAVE THE MONEY, N SCHOLL IS FROM 8 - 3. ITS ONLY 4 HRS LONG WHEN UR IN ELEMANTARY SCHOOL.
