I've been invited to Hungary. Should I go? Why? Why not?

I mean, I sort of decided to go, I guess I'm just wondering about what are some of the things that I shouldn't miss while there. ...Or some things I should prepare for before I leave.
Wow, this turned out to be a dozen questions in one, huh? Sorry guys....

I can see no reason why you shouldn't. Make sure you have a travel insurance, though and bear in mind that Hungary can be very-very hot in the summer (if you go in the summer, and you come from a cooler place) - this means that an all-day sightseeing tour might not be a good idea. Check out the Turkish baths in the capital to get refreshed!

I think what you shouldn't miss really depends on what you are interested in. Architecture? History? People? Customs? Food? Having fun? etc. Guidebooks will give you all the info you need, I think.

Public transport is quite cheap in Budapest, and if you want to go sightseeing maybe you would like to get a pass (for three days, one week, two weeks, a month). There is also a hop on-hop off bus service, which sounds a good start: you can get a global view and get off somewhere interesting to explore.

If you want to buy souvenirs or eat out, you should avoid areas which are targeted at tourists. They usually charge too much, as is the case in every big city. If I were you, I'd follow my instincts and try to see the 'hidden' things (good guidebooks will help you in that).

I hope I could help. Budapest is definitely worth visiting. But if you go in the summer, don't forget a high-protection sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water for survival!

Have a good time!

GO! It's a beautiful country. And if you don't go, you will regret passing up the opportunity later.
