depends which town of the Island you are traveling to:
best sandy beaches are in Ayia Napa-Protaras area
also very nice area for younger people
best night life for young people - everywhere
archaeological sites are in Limassol area(Curion, Amathus)) and Pafos area(Tombs of the Kings, Catacombs, Pafos Moosaics)
restaurants are good everywhere, try to eat where locals do
worth visiting : mountain area with numerous monasteries, Akamas National Park (far west part) with careta-careta turtle sanctuary and beautiful (not sandy)beaches
it is very cheap to rent a car and that is the best way to move around and see the most of Cyprus |

Nissi Bay near ayia napa is beautiful, it has a gorgeous beach just like the carribean! we are going back there next week, it is far enough away from ayia napa to not be too busy, and there are plenty of fantasic bars and restaurants, out of season it is not too busy we are going back with a two year old and a seven month old baby. hope that helps!! |

Paphos in the west or Protaras in the East. Sadly the archaeology seems to be man made in some areas but Paphos is the best original in my opinion. Troodos mountains are worth visiting if you can escape the crowd and do your own thing. |

I'd go to Paphos. There is lots to do, and although it can be described as bustling, you don't have to go far to get away from the crowds.
There are ancient ruins aplenty nearby.
I would recommend you take your drivers paperwork (if you drive) with you and hire a car, preferably a small 4x4. This enables better exploration, particularly of the Troodos mountains. |

Phapos would suit your needs |

Why is this question placed under Greece?
For quiet beeches and good cheap restaurants along with archaeological sites why not try the North. Stay at Bogaz and amongst others you have Salamis and Famagusta a short drive away, also Kantara Castle.
There are also many historic sites in the south but prices on the whole are higher. Where ever you choose to visit I am sure you will be fascinated by the rich history of Cyprus. Have a good trip. |
