Ok - let me explain - we have Mc Donalds, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken etc. Please don't let ignorant people tell you stuff like that! You will wash, but it depends where she lives. If it's the country and there's no indoor plumbing, you'll have to get creative. You can wash every day still. I did when I lived there.
You should bring nothing other than clothes and some books if you want to read. You should bring enough money to go to the beach and the mountains. We have killer nigh clubs - and we know how to party and not necessarily get drunk. For a fifteen year old you should have a more positive attitude - you're young - now it's the time to take risks and see the world. It will make you more mature. I mean, it's not like you're going into the freaking jungle! Seriously, you made me laugh.
Take the trip - you'll be glad you did. When you get older, you can't do stuff like this because of all the responsibilities. E-mail specifics if you'd like and I'll give you some great ideas. At 15 you are considered a young adult in Romania - people will treat you with respect. You can come and go as you please. Just be careful, that's all.
Check these links out - you'll see we're not at all 3rd world.

Romania isn't 3rd world (well, unfortunately some rural areas are, but overall it isn't a third world country) - it's a developing European country, so you don't need to bring anything in particular, you can simply buy it after you get there. And unfortunately there are plenty of Mc Donalds :-)
Only about 5% of Romanians speak German, but If you speak English, you'll certainly be able to get around because more than 30% of Romanians know that language. |

Hello dear, maybe you speak English, but be careful about writing. So :
1. Romania is not a 3rd world's country. By the way, do you know how many Romanians work for Microsoft ?
2.If you use to wash two times/week is your problem, not Romania's one.
3.There are a lot of Mc Donald's, maybe too much.
4.Many Romanians speak English, so, don't worry, you'll be able to survive.
5and finally : If you are so scared don't spoil your time. |

Dont be scared of romania, its a great country, its nt third world they have everything you need including Mcdonalds, they also have internet cafes and showers and running water.
The more rural parts are more deprvied but the cities are very normal.
go with an open mind and enjoy the fact that you are only 15 yet getting the chance to explore a country.
Also read up on the history of romania it may explain why the country is how it is, dont judge it before you get there and enjoy yourself |

I would suggest going to the library to research Romania. also, if you are a member of American Automobile Association (AAA) You can obtain most of the information that you would need prior to traveling to Romania. Also, you may want to check with the CDC concerning what, if any, vaccines injections you may need to have before traveling to that part of the world (vaccines, shots, to prevent various illness that are not usually needed in USA.Provided you are interested in touring the interesting sections of Romaina it would be to your benefit to study the history and listed attractions of Romania (especially in the areas of Romania that you will be visiting). Try to find out the weather conditions for the time of year that you will be there; so you can be prepared by having the correct clothes. You really want to learn about the customs and culture of Romania before visiting too. Find out if the general population there speaks English. If they do not usually speak English it will be beneficial for you to get a small language dictionary of English - Romanian. Write the most useful phrases, i.e. Greetings: good morning, good day, good night, yes, no, please, thank you, where is..address....store...hotel...pharmacy.... store...taxi...phone ...bathroom etc. Oh, real important : Where is the American Embassy located and it's phone number. If you are traveling alone it will be much easier for you to communicate if you have a method of speedy reference of English to Romanian. Personally, I do not know the primary language spoken in Romania. Since you mentioned that you do speak German, it would be easier for you if they speak German or English. It used to be that many foreign countries spoke French as a sort of universal language. Now many countries people speak English, or so I am told. I wish you a marvelous , safe and fun filled, interesting trip! Take care! Oh, you might want to inquire about the food safety too. Do you have medical insurance while traveling? I thought the person that suggested that you take a cell phone with you gave a great suggestion. My question would be can you legally use an American cell phone in a foreighn country? You mentioned that the area you may be visiting is known to be somewhat primitative...next question do you have the proper electrical adapters to be able to plug in your cell phone in order to recharge it? If you plan to send notes or letters to relatives, and friends it may be beneficial to pre-address and stamp envelopes and postcards to save time while in Romania for your touring interests and thus be able to write short notes and mail them off right away w/o having to search for addresses etc. I hope you know that these are merely things that I have found to be useful when preparing to travel. I am certain that AAA or the library references will be quite informative. Oops! Almost forgot one of the most improtant things: get your passport and official papers in order ahead of time. |
