I am going to turkey in May and i am very concerned about the new terrorist threats as of 22/04/2007.?

I would like to know whether i should cancel or not and what parts of turkey in the mediterranean coast would be likely to be targeted. I am mostly concerned for the safety of my child, partner and I.
It would be helpful if people already resident in coastal towns could give an opinion. Regards .

What terrorist attacks are you talking about?

There is absolutely nothing to worry about..

Were you concerned to go to London after the bombings? Or to Spain after the train bombings? S**t happens anywhere around the world...

There is violence from time to time in Turkey but's usually very small in scale. It's only done to scare people off... It's a perfectly safe country. Especially the tourist town are very well guarded...

Come over and enjoy our beaches, sun and history...

Hurricane
it doesn't worth canceling your vacation!!!

Terrorists can attack anywhere in the world anywhere and anytime!!Even in NYC,London,Madrid...you can't know what is gonna happen tomorrow!

Turkey is a real safe country,no worries...Also there is no threats for our coastal areas,it's just a made up!

it's best to cheer up now, prepare your suit case and get ready for the golden beaches :-)

I agree with Marcus. There is always a risk of an terrorist attack, but the same risk covers the whole world; no country or nation is an exception. Unfortunately, there is no indication where and where it can happen.

The aim of terrorists is to "terrorize" which is obvious. We will be serving their aim if we all stay at our home or limit our freedom. Where ever we go, trying to be cautious, having a low profile and staying away from over crowded areas is the only precaution.

Come to Turkey and enjoy your stay.

Actually there is a possibilty of terrorist attack in turkey but as much as it is in US or maybe lower. So do not even hesitate to come to turkey.
Especially the coast towns are far more safer;also if you change your mind and cancel your trip;the terrorists will reach their aim within keeping the tourists away from turkey..

If you want an analytical answer, I would say any terrorist targeting tourists would choose a crowded month to act. May should be safe.

I feel concerned from time to time, too. But as another poster said, bombs exploded in London and Madrid, too.

A useful advice, though. If you face any carpet seller or skirt-chaser, lift both eyebrows and say "Tsk!" with a very bored expression. That's a very Turkish attitude and has helped me greatly. :)

You are advised to ignore comments from local residents that Turkey is "perfectly safe" due to the possibility of personal bias.

According to the US Department of State, " The possibility of terrorist attacks, both transnational and indigenous, remains high." Local separetists and Al Qaida-affiliated terrorists were responsible for suicide bombings in many areas of heightened security (e.g. Istanbul in 2003). The increase in security at official U.S. and government facilities makes it more likely that terrorists strike in places where tourists congregate, such as hotels, malls etc.

While none of the above is reason enough to cancel your holiday, or let fear ruin your good time, you are advised to "exercise caution and good judgment, keep a low profile, and remain vigilant with regard to [your] personal security".

I thing you havent been to Turkey before.
Have a nice holiday with your family.

Arrested Development
You should not go to Turkey. FIrst things first Turks massacred 1.5 million Armenians from 1915-1923 which is known as the Armenian genocide and Turks still to this day haven't even recognized itt as a fact they deny these terrible crimes against humanity. Second Al-Queda has major bases their and they kidnap tourist for exchange for money for prisoners in America. Instead of that lousy and dangerous country of Turkey you should go to Armenia! It is one of the world's most beautiful countries you have ever been too and it is much safer and friendlier.

jenny
I understand your concern. But I agree with the others. No place is 100% safe (except maybe the north pole, but even there, the ice is melting....).
Don´t cancel anything, try to relax, just enjoy it.
I truly believe that I was at much more risk in any other major city, and not only because of terrorism, but because of every day crime. And actually, I´ve always felt safe in Istanbul, even as a woman, and alone, and at night.
As always, just use your common sense.
(PS: by cancelling, you will be rewarding any "terrorists", because that is just what they want to do - damage Turkey´s economy by scaring tourists.)
I hope you have a great trip.

You'll be safe if you stay away from kurds. You'll easily recognize them if you believe in darwin's theory of human evolution.

You guys misunderstood me,İ just wanted to say,why do some people ask the same questions instead of searching for them. That's all.
