Been 5 times. Loved it!
Do the day long Golden Circle trip to see all the main sites around Reykjavik.
You MUST go swimming in the Blue Lagoon! However it looks like you are going into Dante's Inferno as you are arrive!
VERY EXPENSIVE, you need a mortgage to buy a beer!
Icelandair is expensive (Heathrow) but Iceland Express (Stansted) is much cheaper, but we don't like their flight timings.
Real fresh air!
Frontier town atmosphere.
Try the hot dogs (same brand sold everywhere) they are the best in the world!
Also (in summer time) been up to Husavik on North coast whale watching, saw 18 Minke's last time! Stayed on an Icelandic pony breeding farm (in a log cabin on 1/2 board basis) and visited the waterfalls etc "up North".
If you want more info/help just email me! |

My brother went to iceland a little while ago. He said it was great but hugely expensive..especially to eat and drink. A speciality there is puffin. Apparently it's revolting, definately an acquired taste!! taste's like fishy, slimy chicken by all accounts.
Do the excursions out into the country....very spectacular, also go to the blue lagoon. This is like nothing you've ever done in your life before.
Have a top time. |

geysers, thermal baths, gulfoss waterfall, glaciers, Reykjavik, whale watching, ice hotel (if you can afford it).
its an expensive country but well worth visiting. |

I have not been yet, but did research it.
There is a lot to do in nature...visit the towns, the glaciers, the mountains, the puffin colonies and best of all - horseback riding throughout the wilderness area.
I think it would be a lot of fun. I priced a 3-week trip with private guide and driver at $19k. But I like to do it nice! |
