Of course there is the red light district- there are several good bars around there. Also, the largest casino in Europe is there- next to the Hard Rock Cafe... If you want some culture, then go to The Reichs Museum or Van Gogh Museum. Other keep places are Anne Frank House (long lines all day), and the Resistance Museum (resistance of Nazis) are really cool.

Stay central with your hotel location. Get a tram pass- you can buy them with a certain number of rides (I think we did 15-30) and you must use one ride ever time you enter train even if you get off at wrong stop.

Be sure to try a "pancake" place- Pancake Bakery was the best one in the city!!! Its on Prisengract (sp) about 3 blocks away from the Anne Frank House- i think there are other ones too though

try de burghs bar its an irish bar its wicked try staying in the red light disctrict aswell if you aint booked anywhere its alot cheaper than staying in the fancy big b&bs you still get a breakfast and the rooms are just as nice

Around Leidseplein or Rembranthplein you will find so many places to enjoy the night. In the summer time - they're busy until late - early morning. The Blue team (Police) are everywhere - so you will feel very safe around the city.

There's some that maybe you like to visit:
Jimmy Woo
KORTE LEIDSEDWARSSTRAAT 18
AMSTERDAM - LEIDSEPLEIN UPTO AMSTEL
PHONE: (020) 626 31 50

Hotel Arena
'S GRAVENSANDESTRAAT 51
AMSTERDAM - EAST + ISLANDS

I was only 11 when I went so I can't tell you too much, but if you go on one of the boat tours you will probably get to see the annex where Anne Frank and her family hid. Also, it REEKS of pot and porn there, haha.

Have fun! CHEERIO MATE!

it all depends on what kind of night life you are into there. i mean if you already say safe i would think you guys don't like adventure and are maried and not looking for excitement, but i could be wrong ofcourse. night life is always safe, but define the word safe for me hahahaha there will be no shooting or robbing going on or fighting really, every city can have that, not just amsterdam. amsterdam is cool to party, many different clubs to go see, all depends on the type of music or clubbin you are into , rotterdam is cool as well, more modern, more clubs i hear, but also more Urban.
what ever you decide, stay somewhere close to the center so you can take a cab and it won't cost you too much.
enjoy yourselfs and have loads of fun

Try the Vondelpark during the day! Just look at all the people there and ask around where you could go at night.
Enjoy your stay!

I had the pleasure of spending 2 nights at the Banks Mansion a couple of months ago. The first room I was given was a bit on the dark side but upon requesting I was immediately shown another without any fuss. I booked a double delux room and was definitely impressed. The room was decorated to a high standard and the bed extremely comfortable. The complementary mini bar and movie channels were a nice touch and the breakfast just fine.
I am stopping off in Amsterdam for three nights in two weeks time and have booked to stay at the Banks again. My girlfriend will be joining me and I am looking forward to showing her the overall quality of this hotel,
she knows all too well how fussy I can sometimes be when wanting value for money but the Banks certainly offers that. I'm paying EUR 185/night for the double delux which I think is a fair price, contact the hotel directly for the best deals.
I've read a few reviews where people have been dissatisfied for whatever reasons, I guess that there just isn't no pleasing some folks.
Stay at this hotel and you will not be disappointed. Jon, 34.

check out the Dampkring coffee shoppe, its where they filmed part of ocean's 11.

any bar along lidzelplien Square (spelling) will be pretty safe as there will be alot of tourists in the area. we called it led zepplin square

' Safe ' and ' Nightlife ' don't necessarily go together in Amsterdam. Look at it in the daytime then decide. You'll find little difference day or night.
