I am planning on traveling to Turkey. Is it safe for a woman to travel to that beautiful country alone? |
I know Turkey is a very hospitable country and their people very kind, but have also heard many rumors of women being kidnapped on a rather constant basis and I am a little concerned, but I still want to go. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Kidnap on constant basis is exaggerated and untrue.
However it would be wise for you to follow common sense.
Avoid off-shore routes. Hang out in crowded places and don´t look too vulnerable. Act like you would normally do if you didn´t want to be kidnapped in your country of origin.
Since the locals can sometimes be over friendly you may want to keep cool. Don´t drink too much and always keep an eye on your drink. If you have to go to the bathroom, bring your drink with you or order a new one when you get back to your seat. Lots of gentlemen will treat you to a drink, or at least they will ask.
Have lots of fun in Turkey and have an orange juice on me! |

yes there were something in the news
do you know why it was in the news?
because it is an awkward situation for turkey, when people learn that you're tourist they become even nicer than ever before :))
and when someone rapes a tourist or kidnaps her, that's shame, really shame
that doesn't happen often but you know every country has trolls
if you go to a safe place, hotel then everything would be perfect
and i haven't seen any bad thing in the news for a long time
have fun in türkiye |

I would avoid it. I would go to Istanbul and crowded places, or to excursions with an organised group to the archaeological sites, by coach, but I would avoid being alone. |

Well ... You can be kidnapped in your hometown too :-)
I'm gone to Istanbul and Izmir last year, I was alone and nothing happened to me. I never felt as save as in Istanbul. I have been warned (by Turks) to be careful around Eminönü because there were thieves, but most people were really friendly, especially if you are interested by the language or the culture. (but why can't they speak slower, when they talk to a foreigner who learns the language ? I thought that saying "yavaş yavaş lütfen" would help, but it didn't :-) ) |

well, I cannot say that it is 100% safe, as noone can say this for any country, there are bad people living there as well as the nice ones, but it is true that they will do anything to make you feel happy and pleased, just try to be a little bit careful, try not to go to dodgy places alone, try to get on to the "durak" taxis (taxies belong to a cab station) and try to keep your money and passport in a safe place - just as you would do in any foreign country- I hope you would have a great time there, because it is a beautiful place to visit...
have fun;) |

Kurdish mafia does that to mainly russian girls. Stay awake and don't accept every offer for help. Watch for dark-skinned, sweaty individuals. |

Turkey is like any other country when it comes to safety. Of course I can't guarantee that you won't be kidnapped all by yourself. It's like you asking whether it's safe for a woman in New York to be walking around at 1 in the morning. Of course that wouldn't be safe. You just have to make good decisions to avoid that kind of stuff. Don't walk around strange men, don't walk down dark alleys, etc. Hope that helped! :-) |

Well i made nearly all parts of Turkey with a friend who is a girl and it passed without any problem. Turkey is like any other European country. Istanbul is one of the safest metropoles of the world. And i say that because it is an official fact and because i made nearly whole Europe either alone or with a friend. And i didn't see huge differences anywhere.
So don't worry. |
