Well, my list would be:

Beer ;)
Cooler
Tent
Sleeping bag
Inflatable air mattress
Camping stove
frying pan & pot
plates, cutlery & napkins
food
drinks, drinking water if not available on site
tooth brush tooth paste, soap, towels, etc.
flash light(s) & lantern(s)
Knife
Axe or hatchet for firewood (good for pounding in tent pegs too)
Radio
Waterproof matches

It's been a long time since I went camping so I hope you get many more replies. Have fun.

How long are you going? When are you leaving? Here's an idea: camp out in your own back yard this evening. Everytime you enter the house for something, write it down as a necessity to take with you. If you're going for one or two nights, you won't need a whole lot of food. If you're going for several days, take a map of the area if unknown to you and find out where all the grocery stores are.

Hope this helps.

Now, you must have fun so we'll start out with a good, clean camping joke:

Sherlock Holmes and Watson went camping one night. Aboout 3am, Sherlock woke Watson and said "Watson? Take a gander at the stars up there and tell me what you conclude".
Watson gazed at the billions of stars and said "My goodness, Sherlock. Certainly there must be intelligent life out there somewhere. Tell me, what do you ascertain?"
Sherlock said "I believe someone has stolen our tent!"

Unless you camp site is within eyesight of your vehicle, get a good GPS. And a cell phone that will reach out from your location.

yourself might be helpful!

bug spray and lots of it

Food and warm clothing are the most important.

Even though its warm during the day, you'll need warm clothing like a fleece jacket for the night time. It can get really cold. I usually bring my flanel pj's for sleeping in and a really warm sleeping bag. Otherwise, I freeze.

You'll also want to bring a small first aid kit. They can come in really handy.

A cooler food and a nice tent and plenty o flashlights

I think this list is a little over the top, but I guess it depends on just how tied to the outside world you are...and where you're going camping.,,and with whom.

If you're going wilderness camping, and can drive to the place, you can take more. If you're going to an established camping area, that was potable water and a toilet and or shower, you can take less.

bug spray,bottled water,cell phone matches,first aid kit,second aid kit(joking),mace(not kidding),more than one pair of shoes,sun protection,tampons,can opener,cell phone charger,radio,flashlight,extra batteries,a watch,a compass,a map,life jacket,oh and some beer! have fun.

Are you going camping in Europe? (That's the category your ? is under.)

Anway, one thing that I have overlooked while on a camping trip that can be very helpful is some sort of clothesline for hanging up wet clothes, towels, and such. Also bring some clothespins.

Don't foget insect repellent and sunblock!

Otherwise, do you have...?
tent
sleeping bags/blankets/pillows
ground cover to put under your tent
Cooler
Canteens
Ponchos (rain gear)
Matches
Kindling (newspaper or what-have-you)
Plates and utensils
Cups
Pots and pans
garbage bags
Tub/dishsoap/dishtowels/brush
Oven mitts for handling hot pans
Tablecloth to cover picnic table (if available)
Cook stove/fuel
Large water jug
Paper towels
Small first aid kit
Whisk broom or rags for wiping sand and dirt out of the tent
Flashlights and lantern

The link I provided has a nifty little camping checklist for you. It pretty much lists eveything you will need. Print it out and check things off as you go.
