It is the greek reality, and it happens always.My father was telling me some things about people who were going with furs to take social assistance money, getting out of luxury cars, years ago, when i was child...
Now the situation goes on, since in this state there is no control, and everything is available to everyone...They think freedom...is offered to them, and they can use it as they want

Generally I am against the death penalty for philosophical/religious reasons, but in the case of these impostors I am tempted to think otherwhise...at last they deserve life imprisonement (preferably with HARD labour in the fire- plagued regions)

Angelo, this is truly a shame.... What ever happened to FILOTIMO? I despise people who think it's OK to be dishonest and manipulative. Why doesn't the government come up with a better system for distribution of the funds??

It is a shame but leeches always will be leeches.

They can be gypsies like in your case but be prepared to hear higher situated people's names to get involved, too.

In the quake of '99 in Turkey, people stocked the donated supplies in tons, in order to market later. Some of which were government officers who were on duty there to distribute the donations.

The prefabric housings made for homeless victims have been occupied for years by fake victims whose houses not damaged but rented out and they needed to be evacuated with police force after many years.

I know you are not a believer but you have to admit that greed is one of the biggest sins in all major religions for a reason.

That is exactly why.

I quote the same thing in situations like this but I will say it again:

I really wonder what kind of state of mind do those people have and how can they manage to sleep in peace at nights knowing that they fed their family at dinner with some others child's share of food.

Hi. I heard yesterday Th. Roussopoulos say that "for the first time the stated treated greek citizens as honest peple". Apparently some are not. We knew that already though, so I guess the government should have known better from the beginning, but the idea of giving away money to the people on the eve of the elections sounded too appealing to them!

Chris, come on, in order to be doing this, you don't know in what sort of financial desperation these people are also. Sure they are impostors, but there is a lot of poorness out there... And this is the least fraud I can think of that is happening in this country. What about companies that avoid to pay millions of taxes, or who take millions of "mizes" and we don't get so angry, like the situation of the omologa of the Social Security, or even employees im ministries who get their salary for years but have never appeared in the ministry (I know a case), or big time bribes, etc. There is big time corruption and you get so angry at these poor devils, who heard that the government is handing out money for free and thought they'd get some. Not to mention that some of them are fire victims of previous years, who haven't yet received the money that was promised to them, because it was not the elections eve then!

$3000.00 what the heck is that worth in Greece cause it is worth about 25 cents in the USA that is a shame. The US right now is releasing monies to be transferred to Greece to help the victims.

lets start by saying misplanning ,,habhazardnes,,,,its a moment where mentality and rules should correlate,,,those who have been victims fo the fires,,should be registered in databases..regarding previous addresses the authorities can identify the victims,local census,.,,and names,,,,if its done in such a way ,,i mean its total chaos,,and then comes nationalism,,if someone takes what he can get his hands on and knows its for someone in need who really suffered,they r worse than who even started the fires,,modern technology is in hand we must use it for avoiding such mistakes,,and distrubuting needs to those who r truely in need,,,gypsies have no code of honor,,what they get they get ,,,and they dont care of it prospers or dies,,,its a shame ,,as u quoted,

Well, quite honestly, if your government is just handing money out like that, I am not surprised! The shame is to go to the government too!

Due to the Sept. 16 elections, they are trying to buy out human suffering in any way they can, WITHOUT bureaucracy, cause there is not enough time...

Voting for those people again, is the real shame. For all of us. On Sept 17, you'll see that 85% of Greeks will have put their trust on them for another 4 years.

So, why don't we all be happy with bread crumbs and just shut up.
