I go to Amsterdam in late April every year. The tulips are usually at their peak and there are always interesting exhibits in the museums. There's a street fair in Haarlem associated with the flower parade. It will be on Sunday after the Saturday parade - good food and interesting crafts in addition to an opportunity to look at the floats. It's also very easy to get around in the Netherlands via the trains. There's an interesting outdoor museum in Enkhuisen, the windmills at Zaanse Schans, Delft, Hoorn, the Friday cheese market in Alkmaar, Gouda, Utrecht, Den Haag, ...
Earlier in April, I like Cinque Terre (Italy). The weather's usually nice and it's not as crowded or hot as the summer months. If you're there, you can also see Florence, Rome, Venice - Italy has lots of interesting places, and the spring festivals will have started. |
