The Babe is Armed!
Nazim Hikmet.

Although I don't envy his times of isolation and suffering, I admire the integrity and character that allowed him to perservere and to create some of the greatest writing of the 20th century during his lifetime, and during such a pivotal time for his beloved country. It is rare for a poet in any language to so completely affect the sense of national identity. Turkey needed someone like Nazim at just that moment, and fortunately, it got him.

Since we're talking about History rather than Culture, I suppose I would choose to live the same destiny as Atatürk or one of our Sultans ( as Angelo said...), because they defended our Nation and contributed to our Splendour...

But I think we also can be thankful to every single "sehit" who gave their life for us, even if their names are not famous, because we live thanks to their sacrifice which made it possible for our country to remain free, Turk and proud...

Edit for our friends who don't understand turkish : the word "sehit" means "martyr", and I just wanted to express my feeling about these "unkown" Turks ( even though the question actually deals about the famous Turks in History.) We mustn't forget them, and we'll never forget them.

Hi Ipek,

I would choose Nasreddin Hoca, I like to give happiness and fun to everybody.

Bored
OK you got me I want to be Hacivat or Kara Goz one or the other. There is way too much seriousness in this section some times so I would like to play the fool in order to break the tension :))

Other than that I am quite happy being just me :)) No responsibilities as some of the great names mentioned above had. Even further still if I were one of the ones mentioned above I don't think I would have the patience I would probably end up being a dictator :)) So I'm happy being the fool, clown or court jester. Life is way too short.

Can i pick two? Yees yes i can, i know i know..

1-Evliya Çelebi: Roaming one city to another with only the thought of "where should i go next" must be great.

2- Piri Reis: He sailed enough to draw a world map in 16th century. How nice could it be. To see untouched shores..

I'm sure i'd want much more but,i'll do with these two this time.

I would like to be Ismet Inonu, he was really close to Ataturk throughout his life and he witnessed every second of the new Republic...

Ataturk would be my first chose, but he is already been spoken for by Ashifteu,
Namik Kemal the poet is my second choice ,

I would choose to be Latife Hanim. Since she is very educated woman and fits well with the "first lady" concept. We can see that a woman needs lots of qualities to be a "first lady" like her.

Can we be a turkish character in abook?
Please, please??? Pretty please??
oh, thank youuu!
I wanna be Calikusu...
I don't know why but I luuuv the book. I have read it like 8 times...
i heard that Hurrem Sultan was really tricky.
If I HAD to be a historical character, I would be, hmm, Fatma Hanim.
I'm not perfectly sure that is her name but I think it is. She is the lady who lost both of her sons to WWI and formed a gang that fought against the french in the Survival War. She was the head of 40 men fighting with almost no weapons for freedom of their nation!Unfortunately I don't think I could be that brave.
