If in the summer, here are few tips.

I have Been packpacking first time in 1976 and visited just about all the European countries. The cost steers very much where to travel. .

Travelling is not that expensive if you buy an eurailpass for youth. It costs currently $634.00 for one moth travel in Austria 3, Belgium 3, Denmark 3 , Finland 3, France 2, Germany, 3 Greece 2, Holland 2, Hungary 1, Italy 2, Luxembourg 3, Norway 4, Portugal 1, Republic of Ireland 3, Romania 0 , Spain 2, Sweden 3 and Switzerland 4.

You can also extend your trip to Czeck 1 and Slovakia 0, Estonia 1 you have to buy the train tickets (boat for Estonia), but prices of them are very reasonable and living cost make it up. I would recommend Prague (old city and center price level 3 all other 1). Other Cities definately worth seeing are: Berlin, Porto (take a tour in port cellar) and Barcelona maybe also Paris, Cologne, Amsterdam, Delft (Holland), Annecy (France), Berlin, Copenhagen, Tampere.

I have number behind each giving idea of price level there this correspons the price level on regular towns not historic city centers etc...

4 - much higher than states
3 - somewhat higher than states
2 - states level
1 - below states
0 - way below

For people of your age Berlin is a place to go with all the clubs and concerts see: http://www.berlin-tourist-information.de... Amsterdam also nice. Prague events are here and you can safely purchase your tickets also and pick them up in their venye in the center (done it twice) http://www.ticketpro.cz/?@en/index... Check the web page of your favorite artist whether they perform somewhere in Europe. With railpass everything is within reach.

There are a lot of activities all over europe in the summer, best source of info are your fellow travellers on trains. If you want to celebrate midsummer and go up north it is very big festival in Finland, like New Year and Super Bowl Sunday combined, 22.-24. June in Lapland you might even see the midnight sun, railpass takes you up to arctic circle. Here are activities in Finland http://www.visitfinland.com/w5/uk/index.... If you are interested in Finland there is a cheap 2,5 hour Ryanair flight direct from Dublin to Tampere at ryanair.com

One big festival in the North is big beer festival in Tallinn (boat from Helsinki) http://www.ollesummer.ee/?lang=eng&st=... i think Octoberfest is overprized and for older people(no bands exept leather short brass) compared to this (pint less than 2 dollars).

Usually summer is more active in the Northern Europe because its the time of celebration there. All the people have minimum of one month off work, just to party. Don't worry about the weather in Finland, Sweden and Estonia weather in June-August is as warm as anywhere in Europe, certainly warmer than Great Britain and rains much, much less.

These are bits and pieces, hope you can exploit them.

Have a good trip

Berlins' worth a visit for some cool old buildings and a good nightlife.
Krakow in Poland is a personal favourite of mine.
Paris is good and cold keep you busy for weeks.
Just been to Tallinn in Estonia and despite several people telling me it was rubbish prior to visiting it we thought it was ace.
Depends what you like youself really.

Hi I have travelled around Europe twice by rail, you will have a fantastic time.It really depends on your time,if it is for a month your can go from Norway to Russia,Romania,Turkey,Greece,Italy France ,Spain to Portugal.I would say fly with a budget airline to your start point and back from you last city.
Bon voyage

Definately see Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne for the obvious sites, other than that I would go to as many cities as I could, Barcelona, Madrid, Monacco, Nice, Switzerland, Rome Gosh you should just go as many places as you can.I believe the craic along the way is the best. Have a great time.

do not miss the beautiful journey from austria into ljubljana in slovenia, spend somtime in ljubljana its the hidden gem of europe,a very cosmopolitan and trendy city, lots of young people, designer shops, cafe bars along the river, good nightlife, and the food is superb, definetly go to "la cantina"mexican retaurant, you can eat outside under trees or inside, very informal, and cheap,i go at least twice a year, and when your ready to move on,travel by train from ljubljana to zagreb in croatia,(it takes about 2 hours)amazing scenery and the train follows the river all the way, keep your passport handy as you will need to get it checked and stamped at the croatian border,ENJOY!!!!

You're in Europe, you're just not in mainland Europe.

Italy - you've got to see Venice, Florence and Naples. Rome if you must. Venice is very special.

France - Paris. Musee d'Orsay is cool.

Germany - Munich, the mountains and castles in the South.

Austria - Salzburg and Vienna, both gorgeous.

Hungary - Budapest is lovely. The Statue Park is worth checking out.

Czech Republic - Prague is a wonderful city, I'd go back tomorrow.

Spain - Barcelona is good, particularly the Gaudi buildings.

Netherlands - Amsterdam is more than drugs, but then the Netherlands is more than Amsterdam also, try the city of Groningen in the North, or Utrecht in the centre. I lived in Groningen for 6 years, so I'm very very fond of the place.

Denmark - the Carlsburg brewery and city of Copenhagen is a must. Otherwise bring beer in from Germany, as it's very expensive in Denmark.

I'm planning on going to Greece, Cyprus. Portugal, Norway, Russia, Finland, Morocco and other places in Eastern Europe eventually.

In all these places, mind your belongings, I caught a girl trying to steal my wallet from my belt bag in Barcelona when I was there, so it happens. Mind yourself and enjoy your trip!

Don't go to amsterdam first, as you may never leave.
I love Amsterdam like home, the architecture and artistic culture revelling in freedom is just really nice.

If I could think of a way to finance it, I'd live there.
