As few as you dare. I always find it best to buy what the locals wear when I get to a new place. They always know best and shopping is fun. Locals also enjoy being asked for advice and it breaks you out of the package tour/tourist rut.

Bernadette
very warm clothing of course !

also take a swimsuit, they are famous for their saunas over there all year around.

Also, take lots of money, scandinavia in general is expensive for everything! Their taxes are high.

Be sure to take lots of pictures, the scenery is beautiful

Have fun, they are very welcoming people over there.

A friend of mine went to work there last christmas and on his home movie all you can see is snow!

He spent the whole time in his winter coat so dont forget to take that. It got dark very early too so you probably wont need anything other than jumpers and warm jeans or trousers. Have loads of fun!

Happy.

A Big Red Suit with fur collar and Sleeve cuffs.
Shinny black boots, a thick black belt with a huge holly wreath buckle.
A red pointy hat that droops at the top with a white furry ball on the end.

If possible grow a large white beard and moustache.
Should fit in perfectly at that time of year.

Ho Ho Ho Merry... Nope too early for that.

Plenty of thermals or go to Blacks the outdoor shop and get all warm clothes there, woollie hats and gloves scarves

Lots of layers and and wind/waterproof outer garments, always wear a hat and don't forget your skis/snowboard. Gosh can I come too....please!

Krisi
Wool socks, thermal underware, good skies you can rent. They sell very high quality winter clothes in Finland, but beware they are very expensive. You might want to get some stuff from L.L.Bean befor you go. Good sense of humor, you will need it with Finns, and be prepared they consume a lot of alcohol and love to party...and I am not talking about one six pack of light beer.
