I have visited Greece & the Islands since 1992, at least 3 times a year, and out of that experience, I can consider Greece a safe country to visit. Particular behavour in traffic and state of roads are critical point where you have to pay attention. It is good & safe to stay in Greece; enjoy your visit.

It's fairly safe. I lived there for 14 years and was never bothered. Things may have changed in the 10 years I've been gone. Of course, usual precautions (safeguarding of possessions, etc) should be used. My sister's wallet was stolen from her open purse. English is widely spoken, at least in Athens and tourist areas. |

Greece is not only very safe, but is the only place in the world with better weather than Orange County CA, which makes for friendly people |

I live in Greece and I sometimes walk my dog at 2 a.m. and feel safe. That's something I would never do in my own country.
It's a very safe place to be and great to bring up children.
Most people speak English and many other languages. |

Greece is not fairly safe---it is VERY safe. Go and have a good time. Take the necessary precautions that you would take anyplace while on vacation. And have a great time!! |

It is very safe. But you should always use common sense, and remember this:
If you go looking for trouble. You will find it.
So you will have a fun time, but you should still keep you wits and your head and stay away from places and people who's idea of fun may get you in trouble. |

It is more than safe! People are friendly if you get lost, and almost everybody in rural areas and tourist areas speaks English and often another one or two languages.
Hotels and hostels offer safes for your money and passport, and unless you don't carry your values in the back pocket of your pants, nobody will take anything from you. Hello, Greece is a European country with European standards!
And people don't carry guns - like in other countries! :) |

Greece is the safest country when it comes to tourists that I can think of. It has a traditional way of life that is safeguarding the real values and this prevents crime better than any laws. Sure there is crime, but a lot can be attributed to the immigrants, not the locals.
It's so safe that I've been letting my child go to Greece alone for several years now, with a group leader or a coach, to one of the sports/language camps. And I come from a culture where children are over protected and not readily encouraged to take trips without their families. That speaks a lot about safety in Greece. |

Greece is VERY SAFE. you can walk around at 3AM and it's totally fine. If you're worried about safety..go during high holiday season (july-august), when everyone from Europe is vacationing. It's so relaxed, and awesome. The only thing you have to worry about is people knowing your foreign and overcharging you because you don't know the language.. But that's rare, just be careful with taxis, and be practical with knowing the Euro exchange. (thieves = "klefti's" that spelling might be wrong, but that's how i pronounce it) |
