Of course. All the western civilization is based on the Greek one. Philosophy, mathematics, architecture, theater, literature.
So, the west is a Greek world. |

Yes Greece is the cradle of Western civilization as we know it. It is also a member state of the European Union, a member of the Eurozone and overall a modern country with a liberal economy. Not to mention it's been a NATO member since 1952. |

Yes, they always were since ancient times. The Greek vs. Persian wars were West vs. East.
New York Times article dated June 4, 1922, Sunday:
"If the sufferings of the Greeks in that part of the world come in for a larger share of our attention and sympathy than other Christian nationalities of the Near East it is because they are closer to us and have more in common with our Western ideas, tastes and prejudices than Armenians, Syrians, &c. These are Asiatics, whereas we regard the Greeks, no matter whereas they make their homes in the Kingdom of Greece or Smyrna or at Trebizonde, as Europeans-that is to say, as fellow Westerners." |
