Oh absolutely, Greece is light years better than Turkey.
First of all because Greece is a European Community member it is much easier to travel from there to just about anywhere in Europe. Ryanair is just one incredible company, Literally pennies on many of their flights!
Because the Currency is the Euro it is so much more stable than the Turkish Lira.
Legal rights and Human Rights in Turkey are a nightmare, heaven help you if you cross the wrong person especially if the police take an "interest" in you at all!
Having lived in both Istanbul and Athens, I would tell you , while the whole world is not a perfect place, you are so much better off in Greece.
And the chance of getting out without having to bribe anybody is much much much better in Greece than in Turkey.
Hope that helps. |

Hello from Turkey.
I think this question is not friendly. Like multiplying apple and pear.
Greece and Turkey are both big civilizations and they have huge history and cultures. You can like only one of it but we must respect to all. |

Better is such a vague term and open to personal interpretation. So of course Greece is not better than Turkey and vice versa. There are a lot of similarities due to geography and cultural intermixing. There is a natural tendency to find ones native land better than everybody else. So if you are Greek, Greece is better than Turkey and the opposite is also valid. If you are a tourist in all honesty you are in no position to really Judge. Both cultures have both positive and negative aspects. Nobody in the world is better or worse, just different. (I'm Greek) |

I never really like to say one country or place is better than another because every country has such unique qualities. That's why so many people around the world have been bitten by the "travel bug". I don't know much about Turkey, but the thing I have to say I love about Greece is the architecture, history, culture, landmarks.... Its just a Historian's dream really. |

Yes, in aspects such as democracy, human rights, women's rights, education, culture, conservation of monuments, constructions, infrastructure, quality of life, etc.
I have to admit though that Turkey has the best food. |

The question is highly subjective and I do agree with The Stai. Having said that, to those who are interested in what has been called the "Cradle of Western Civilization" Greece remains unparalleled. |

I want just to add, that Turkey is full of our civilisation.Concerning both countries we are not so different as far it concerns the way of life. But it iis useless to say good or bad things in this site, because it is a forum for peace, so I ll say that each country has its own beauties... |

Hello from Turkey
We have the same ethnic culture such as ; we both drink raki , eat musakka , kofte , cacik , even the same traditional puppet show ( hacivat- karagöz ) etc. We have been living together in peace for centuries. Turks are very fond of greeks and actually ı know that also Greeks are fond of the Turks. But ofcourse beauty changes according to ones taste.
Over all , they both are very similar countries .

at first i need to say that "better" depends on the person so i would choise turkey cuz it is a unique country with lots of culture mixed together perfectly.Byzantine,Ottoman and modern western culture lives together there. There is no country in the world where mosqs and churchs stand next to,also according to a survey that is delivered in newspapers in USA today, istanbul is no:34 richest city in the world, don't search for athens it is not even in top 100... |

personel experiences differ from person to person. unlike doran i would choose Turkey for instance. But this does not make some place better or worse. these are all relative issues. I have lived for 3 yrs in turkey and 2 yrs in athens before i returned home to the netherlands.
Living in Turkey was one of the great experiences i ever had. it is such vibrant country, unlike our cities they do not shut down the city after 6 o'clock. u can always find a open place in the middle of the night.
istanbul has breathtaking view, u just stare the bosphorus view for hours. cafe, clubs, houses (which they call yali) by the sae are amazing. i went to this place call Reina and it was amazing. i have never seen such an outstanding place b4.
turkey has a very rich culture it is the mixture of west n east. the architecture is fantastic.
for the economical issues, it is been getting more stable everyday. we should never forget that greek, spanish economies were not so good b4 they join the union. with the union they boosted up their economies. we as the union have so many economical issues. it is very normal for them to have as well.
The only problem turkey has is their image in western europe. we always mispercieve them from here but u see that it is completely the opposite when u visit. i think it must very disturbing for them that "all the world" has some opinion about them.
for the low cost airline issue doran mentioned - there flies germanwings, myair, easyjet, corendon to turkey. so can easy find cheaper tickets :) |

The question seems to be rather provocative. The greeks will answer rightfully so in favor of their country and the turks obviously will support the suppremacy of their own (and they will rate accordingly the answers of the "others"). So, I suggest you make up your own opinion, comparing:
- landscape
- history
- ancient AND modern culture
- economy
- respect of human rights
- democracy and levels of cencorship
- equality of women and rights of minorities
I presume the conclusion will be clear - although one has 10 million people and the other about 80. |

Both countries have goods and bads . The thing is that most of Turkey's goods are of Greek origin. (Monuments, food,Konstantinople , music, buildings, history) :) (Sorry my friends Turks but thats the way it is) So why not prefer the original? Also Greece is an EU member which means the country is ages ahead of Turkey in terms of economy, human rights, culture etc .
At the end it depends on what each person likes and dislikes and what counts for him the most. |
