Because of Greek and Roman history and similar Mediterranean cultures, but Greece and Italy are two different countries, as Greece&Albania, Greece& France, Greece& Romania, Greece&Turkey.

When you ask a Greek which countries is she most culturally related with Greece, a Greek would say:: the Balkans, Eastern Europe, and the Mediterranean countries (which include Italy, Spain and Portugal.) Greece has a little bit of all of the above.

Chatty82, We are free now as we were decades ago, before the september of 2007 we waited for visas 5-6 days and always we took them, while last september we firmed a free-visa with the EU, as for the bath, I have a summer house in the Adriatic coast, a touristic place in a summer resort group of villas and I swim everyday, maybe you are dreaming of it....

Southern Europe and Balkans countries, including your country, share a lot of similar culture because of the interaction they had with one another over the centuries given their close proximity but don't ever make the mistake that they are not different from one another. Each has its own culture, identity and history separate from one another. As for Italy and Greece being similiar I suggest a class in European history to see how closely both Greeks and Italians interacting with one another not only in ancient times but through out both their countries history, so yes they are similar in a way. For the record a large number of ancient Greek words have survived and still used in the local Greko dialects spoken by Italians of Greek heritage to this day. The northern Adriatic just east of Rovigo was a principal ancient Greek trading centre. The town of Adria was founded by the Etruscans it become Greek later in the 6th.century BC when Greeks started settle in Italy. I recommand reading "Rome and the Western Greeks, 350 BC - AD 200.

Greece is mostly Orthodox and Greeks have their culture, their music, their language and their lifestyle

Italy is mostly Catholic, Italians are more Westernized than Greeks in some aspects and Italy has it's beautiful own language, it's architecture and it's beautiful towns that I've visited and are not similar to Greek ones

Albania, also where I live, has also it's own style, Albania is known for religious harmony, hospitality, it's "besa" and the tasty food and also sexy girls, it is less developed than Greece and Italy but growing fast and is situated between Greece and Italy so has the best position and climate

Definitely every country has it's own things that makes it special, and Greece has a lot of things, another thing, Albanians,Greeks or Italians definitely are very different from Middle Easterns, and it's logically, they're considered as South Europeans and have nothing to do with Arabic group of languages and culture...and please stop provoking people...This is what the biggest part of Albanians looks like:

airpole, Albanians are linguistically descendents of the pelasgians and the illirians, and as Greece, Albania was invaded by the Ottomans and they obligated people to turn into their religion here, we were proud catholics and this is why today in Albania you can find a lot of mixed religious people, our Christian background is clearly apparent, in Albania Muslim girls like me, wear sexy clothes have cars,piercing and stay all night in discos if they want and this is why I call it a unique style.

Albania today like before the Comunism is in the free world, and I'm not just saying this, but it's a fact because our government firmed lfree-VISA with the EU....I take a bath everyday for your information, and like me all the Albanians I know so fu.ck up...

Selena, yes you are right, today it's opened, in the '90 Albania was a totally ruined country and a lot of people tried to escape, but today it has a very fast growing economy and this is the reaon why a lot of Albanians came back to the country, we are also supported by the US and America has always been our alley, also in the Comunism period Albanians loved it, before the Comunism Albania was a rich country and very appreciated by people, this is what drives me mad, although now I see it's developing very fast. I just wanna remind Greek people when Greece was a poor country and all the people were obligated to emigrate to find a work in the US, they shouldn't forget how hard it was and a lot of Greeks started with crimes in that period, they're Human mistakes, in the '90 this thing happened to Albania for the 1st time, and I just wanted to remind that times ago Greece was also a poor country and thank to it's position and nature, like Albania, it developed very fast in the '80 and fortunately they had a democratic system so this helped them a lot, but not only Greece, also Italy in the '30 was a very poor country with emigrants that to survive created the mafia in the States, today Italy is rich and developed a lot after that period, so also Albania in the future as I said thanks to it's position and tourism resources will develope very fast, and the process has just started...so selena, also Greeks and Italians tried emigration but they forgot it very fast and they shouldn't do it if they want to understand immigrant situations...

Greece and Greeks are Unique and many light years away from all our Northern and East neighbors. You will never be able to even come close to us. As for the Italians, we do have common characteristics since most of the Southern Italians are somehow descendants of Greek immigrants that inhabited the Italian peninsula in ancient times.
You and the Albanians are descendants of your Turkish ancestry and that is what makes you unique in NOT being Greeks. And that is the reason you are so anxiously wanting to be what you will never be.

Greece bears little similarities to Italy and no similarities to Albania.
Arabs do not look at all like Greeks.Greeks are europeans,and are whiter,with different facial features.
The reason greece does not want to be associated with Albania is because a lot of Albanians came to live in Greece,which is richer,and because they were poor they took "low" jobs and were stealing from greeks.But if you want my personal opinion on this,I think people from Albania are very good and I have lots of friends in my school in Salonica who are great.

They do tend to say to Italians 'Same face, same race'! I often heard it when I was in Greece. I guess it comes from the Italian occupation, even though they were occupied by them, they had a good relationship with them or even way before that. Many old Greeks from the Dodecanese still speak Italian.
Albania, however, unfortunately was a closed country for many years and when it opened and many Albanians escaped looking for better conditions (and who can blame them), some, unfortunately, resorted to criminal activities and thus giving the rest of them a bad name! It is really sad though for the Albanians who want to make an earnest living to be blamed for something all the time they didn't do and be ashamed to function in Greek society.

PS Why is everybody so rude to you here...I am shocked!!!

To see real Greeks go to Italy because when the ottomans invaded the most Greeks left to go to Italy also in the old times most of Italy is Greek Colonies the land of Greece were occupied by Ottomans and they Bought in every Trash they could find in the east to fight their uprisings every time now Albania also occupied by ottomans and they still have left their print there up until early 19 century half Greece were Catholic too but the orthodox branch of Christianity started to plant Icons in different parts and they claimed thavma that some agios -agia show up there and they reversed the people to their side so there !

greeks are not simulair to italians italians are simular to greeks. the italians adopted much of greek culture aftering invadeing us.. and italy is not a sea apart from greece italy and greece are next to eachother in the same damn sea. and for the last damn time GREEKS ARE NOT ARAB AND WE DO NOT LOOK ARABIC, IM 100% GREEK DO I LOOK ARAB TO YOU? greece is its own civalized democratic country with its own rich beautiful unique history. why would we want or need to be assiciated with any other country!
