Is Laganas, Zante a good holiday destination? |
I am looking for somewhere reasonable and hot, with good nightlife and a good beach, would you recommend Laganas, Zante?
What is your opinion on the place? Additional Details If this is the case, then do the locals hate the tourists ie is it full of English 'chavs'? Is there Greek cuisine available? Is the weather good in June? |

The beach is beautiful, and the place offers more nightlife than you can handle. Lots of English food, British magazines, pubs with wide screen Satelite TVs that play football non-stop, fry-ups, fist fights...
If you are into loud drunken Brits, go for it. I hate the place! |

Have been to zante lots of times & always stay in Kalamaki which has lots of lovely restaurants, bars etc for night entertainment. Laganas is lovely during the day for beach and shops but, unless you are young (18 to 30) don't go near the place at night as it is loud!!!. Worse than Blackpool with heat. Best advice I can give is to stay in Kalamaki and venture into Laganas during the day as only about a mile or so away, with the occasional visit at night if you want the loud, brash nightlife. Everywhere in Zante is safe, except Laganas at night so if you do go "be careful". Lots to do in Laganas during the day as sports bars etc. open & beach sport, sea trips etc available at reasonable prices. Beach is sandy & water shallow & warm so great for swimming. June is a lovely time to go as weather hot, hot, hot so no problem getting a good tan. Nights just getting warmer so no need for woolies then.
To sum up, if you are a family with kids, choose Kalamaki to stay in & have occasional adult night out in Laganas.
If you are young and looking for a boozy holiday then Laganas is the place for you, but with care. Incidentally, you find the bars in Laganas increase their prices quite a lot at night compared to daytime prices. Doesn't happen in other resorts on the island.
Whatever you choose, you'll have a great time so good luck. |

Too many British tourists drinking non stop and throwing up.
Argasi is better for nightlife. |

laganas is good as for the nightlife(if you search for wild nights)
argasi is very nice for nightlife also, and tsilivi for both.
if you like great beaches you should go to vasilikos,alykanas,limnionas(shipwreck,b...
zakynthos is small so if you rent/have car,you can visit all places and stay to a place with better beaches and go to the club by car
p.s.lagans..i dont recommend for the beach...
edit
no they dont hate the turists, some times they are tired of them(because british in laganas always get drunk) but they are very friendly towards turists.
even if they dont have the best opinion for some of them...they ll never show this...they are lovely |

Apparently it's pretty good in Laganas. A friend of mine worked out there for the whole summer last year and absolutely loved it (the photos were amazing!). I'm considering it myself for next year, but picked Kavos in Corfu this year as it was cheaper so didn't burn such a hole in my pocket! |

if you are going as a family with children probably not, but if you are going with a partner or friends then yes, it is so hot there and the beach is lovely, have a great holiday. |

Laganas is a busy place also full of teenagers getting drunk in lots of big 'english' themed bars.
If you want something quieter not to far away with a great beach and low key nightlife, go to kalamaki. I went there last year in September and we had a great time.
It was quiet when we wanted it to be but lively when we wanted some activity at night a perfect combination.
Early morning we went jogging on the beach and the highlight of our holidays was seeing baby turtles having hatched over night making their way to the water, a fantastic sight.
The weather was very good in September but June should be the same.
Also, as its only a small place its very close to the airport. Although you get some noise, there are no planes at night but the advantage is that the transfer to the resort is almost nil! |

Laganas is full of idiot brit teenagers going mad.
My mate stays in Kalamaki every year for 3 weeks and swears by it.
Some videos of the hotels and apartments in the Kalamaki links as well. |

my family originates from zante but i live in australia.
i have been a few times and am going back this year for a holiday.
i dislike lagana
for me it is too loud, too chaotic and too dirty
i much prefer the quiter areas
i would never go to a beach in lagana also
you are in zakynthos and there are much much much much nicer places to go
i like vasillikos for the beaches and for nightlife i'll head more out but not to lagana
there's also the sulphuric beach at the top of the island which is so blue it's unbelievable
lagana is totally crazy
last time i went the cars couldnt even get through cause of all the people everywhere |

Hi,having been to the Greek islands many times,i found Zante one of my favourite islands.
Have been 3 times to Kalamaki which is close to Laganas,i must agree with everything Dark Star has advised, well said Dark Star so i do not feel have to add anymore.
Stay safe on holiday, although Greece in my eyes is one of the safest countries, take the same precautions as you would at home.
Have a brilliant holiday, you will want to go back for sure. |

Try Tsilivi instead. Mind you if your after nightlife, lots of scally Brits and Brit themed pubs then go to Laganas. Tsilivi is more family orientated. |

I wouldn't recommend Laganas for families, but if you are after Night Life then it certainly has that! The beach is good and has some water sports on offer. The beach at Tsilivi is lovely too & if you want a speed boat trip - go out to the cove and see the ship wreck! I may be biased cos I had a lovely holiday in Zante when I was 17 and got the best tan of my life - but that was in August! Have fun. |
