Is Netherland a country?

My brother says one of the teachers in his school was told she was wrong for saying the Netherlands is not a country.
Now we are wondering if it is, in fact, a country or not.
Additional Details
I know what we're talking about.
I looked at maps and information, but they don't really tell you exactly what it is. I looked at a bunch of things.

The Netherlands is one of the three constituent coutnries of the Kingdom of Netherlands. The other two are the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

The official name of the country is Kingdom of Netherlands however Netherlands is used as a conventional short name for the Kingdom of Netherlands.

cerbphan
Of course it is

S J H
kingdom of the netherlands is the official name. holland is a nickname..it was never the name of the country..holland is really refering to two provinces in the netherlands..zuid holland and noord holland..amsterdam is the capital but den haag ( the hague) is the seat of government.

There is indeed a country called "The Netherlands" ("Kroninkrijk den Nederlanden" in Dutch, which means "Kingdom of the Netherlands").

It is on the North Sea coast of Europe, facing towards the coast of England.

It's a fairly small country, geographically, but has a large population for its size, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

There is a province in the Netherlands called Holland, and many people refer to the Netherlands as "Holland". However, that's a bit like referring to the UK as "England" or to the USA as "Texas". The two things are different concepts.

The teacher in your brother's school needs to get some basic geography lessons.

yes. it´s a country.

So, if your teacher said that it wasn´t, and she was called on it, she was wrong, and whoever told her so, was right.

And you COULD have ascertained this on your own, by simply looking at a map of Europe. Of course, that implies that you know that we are talking about Europe. We are. The Netherlands is just north of France and Belgium, West of Northern Germany, and across the English Channel from...well...England.

Pockyman
Of course Netherland is a country in Europe .They also have a quenn Beatrice.

Its playoff time!
Netherlands is in fact a country. It is in Europe.

pffffffff
No, but The Netherlands is.
The Dutch are calling their country Nederland, but in English it's The Netherlands.

My pasport says the Netherlands. But it includes all the colonies it has. (from back in the day) When Suriname was still part of the Netherlands and some other contries. Holland is still a country just part of the Netherlands

Yes, the Netherlands is a country. The teacher is probably old and doesn't realise that it isn't called 'Holland' any more.
