Is America really that great? |

Why so cynical?

If a country is small, then the number of immigrants living outside the country is small.
If a country is huge, like Russia, then the number of that country's nationals living outside the country will be bigger.
---------------------
But no, things in Russia are not 'that bad'. And things are quickly imprving. There are more rich people in Russia by the minute. Every time I go to Russia I see how much and how quickly it's changing. It's not like Europe. It's beyond Europe. It's exceeded Europe in various areas. It's more advanced, often more progressive. It's a cool country to live in. I even know people who are moving to Russia from abroad, from Europe, because they see it as a country with a promising future for them.
There are many ex-Soviet immigrants in America, many of them Jews who had left because of anti-semitism. But now there's virtually no anti-semitism in Russia. It's not like it was in the Soviet times. |

Are you getting your news from Sarah Palin?... Most Russians you see in the US are NOT Russians at all. They are Jews who moved here as refugees from all over the ex-USSR. There are enough Americans living in Russia to say that things in the US are "that bad" so they all move there. . .
.By the way, John S.: all the things you list about Russia can be found right here in the US... Or was Obama screaming for another sort of "change?" I mean, America now is not in a recession, it's in a real depression. And the last time I've been to Moscow -- recently -- I'd consider staying there because of how things look better there for Americans. |

If you're talking about immigrants/descendants of immigrants in America: was England really that bad? Or Germany (yeah, it was at one point, but many immigrants came way before Nazis)? Or Scandinavia? How about Italy? Does it suck? China? India? Mexico? Brazil? Etc, etc, etc. The answer for all those places, just like Russia, is that yes it probably sucks for some people, for others it doesn't. But that isn't the only reason why people leave. Sometimes people leave even if things are good, because they get DIFFERENT opportunities somewhere else.
If you are referring to the huge amount of Russian tourists in certain cities like Paris and Amsterdam: Russians are nuts about museums (and about Paris). In general they are very well educated, that probably has something to do with it. In both those cities, as well as in some other places like New York, I've seen an insanely high percentage of Russians. At first I thought it was weird, but then I realized it was always near the museums, no joke. It's funny, I just got back from Amsterdam, and in the "coffee shops" (weed shops) I was hearing English about 50% of the time, French the other 50%. In front of the two biggest museums, I was hearing English about 15% of the time, Russian 80%, French maybe 5%. |

Is any country really that bad?
Well except for Greece.(that is worst than bad).
The same reasons were asked the poor migrant from Yugoslavia, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Spain or Greece in the past.
Now is the Russian turn - do you have any problem with that? |

no it's not. every country in the world has a bad side to it. some people like what they have in their country, some don't.
i, for one, got tired of being stuck in St. Petersburg and never having a chance to travel anywhere, i wanted to see more things, to go to more places, experience something different, so i moved to USA. my brother on the other hand won't even come visit us, he loves it there and doesn't want to leave, he's got a great job, great family, pretty much everything he needs.
so for some people sometimes what their country has to offer to them just isn't enough. i mean, did i choose to be born in that country? no, but i do have a chance to choose where to live once i grow up, so i chose USA, and hey, maybe tomorrow i'll try Canada, or some country in Europe lol
just bc some people end up in USA doesn't mean it's the greatest country in the world, lots of people leave this country to go live elsewhere too, i've met some Americans who left USA to live in Russia lol |

There is a Russian proverb "Well, where we do not." We watch American movies, where life in America shows a carefree: a lot of money, large suburban homes and large salaries. I am 16 years old, I live in Belarus, I also have a yearning for America. |

The only reason I would need to go to Russia is to gather experience for my resume. Other then that I seriously think that Russia was better off when Stalin was around. |
