If it wasn't, it wouldn't be in the championship now, would it?
By the way; you are asking your question in Yahoo Answers Home > Travel > Europe (Continental) > Turkey so I guess it is :) |

Yes, some of Turkey is in Europe, the other half is in Asia.
Israel, however, opens up another debate. They're not welcome in the Middle East, so have to turn to Europe instead. |

Apparently, UEFA officials, Eurovision officials etc. know better than you do. That's why Turkey participates in all European events. By the way, did you know that Turkey has been a member of the European Council for decades? |

Not only is Turkey a European country to play in the European football championship, it is also a European country to become a founding member of the European Council (in 1949) and an associate member of the European Economic Community (in 1963), sign a Customs Union agreement with the European Union (in 1995) and begin formal accession negotiations with the EU (in 2005), not to mention participate in Eurovision every year. ;) |

A very small portion of Turkey is on the European continent. However, it is generally known as a "western" near-eastern country.
Though many of its citizens are Muslim, it is legally a secular country. |
