No, it is a developing country, indeed it is growing much more than other europen countries. Turkey dosen't need europe, because there are enough resources to bring it to the level of developed countries in the next 20 years. |

My answer is NO. Please refer to http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/third_world.htm |

HEre s the deal. There are leaders (first world countries) like Canada, Japan, US, Germany etc. Then there is the developing countries which Turkey would certainly fit in this category. With their economy, tebcnology and gwoth rate, then there is 3rd worl nations like Sudan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bangladesh etc. So the answer to your question is no. |

I visited Turkiye one year ago now and I would definitely not consider it as a third world country. Yes, it has not the same standards as in western Europe if we're talking about the country in general, but as mentioned above, if you look in the financial districts or in a shopping mall, you will find a very high standard! The best part is that they still have a great hospitality and a rich culture. I am certain to go back any time soon, just love the country!! |

13 th biggest economy in the world can be a third country? |

First off, "third world" is a Cold War-era term, so don't use it. "Second World" refers to countries that were Communist.
Turkey is a developing economy, yes. If you were to walk around the financial districts or the shopping malls of Istanbul, you would see plenty of trade just like in a "Western" economy. Yet if you were to go to the east of the country or neighborhoods on the outskirts of the country's larger cities, you would get a different picture. Some people live in compounds with swimming pools and go to tanning booths every day, while some take their kids out of school at age 11 to go work in a factory to make ends meet.
Turkey has plenty of promise--just in the few years I've been coming here I've seen major changes for the positive. While there isn't really a middle class here, arguably a true standard for judging whether or not an economy could safely be classified as developed, the Gini coefficient, a measurement of wealth distribution in a given economy, is close to that of the US. |

I have been to Turkey several time and liked it a lot. I would not consider it a third world country, but it is no where near the western world in terms of cost of living, human rights, etc. |

Turkey is not a 3rd wwc but it is definitely not in the biggest economies in the world like Amaaannnnn or whatever his name is. Homeboy I dont know where you get your stats for but my research does not have Turkey in the 13th place even though it would be convinient for you....
Here is the latest list.
Rank Country GDP
1 United States $11,750,000,000,000
2 China $7,262,000,000,000
3 Japan $3,745,000,000,000
4 India $3,319,000,000,000
5 Germany $2,362,000,000,000
6 United Kingdom $1,782,000,000,000
7 France $1,737,000,000,000
8 Italy $1,609,000,000,000
9 Brazil $1,492,000,000,000
10 Russia $1,408,000,000,000
11 Canada $1,023,000,000,000
12 Mexico $1,006,000,000,000
13 Spain $937,600,000,000
14 Korea, South $925,100,000,000
15 Indonesia $827,400,000,000
One fact is that it might may be a second world country but that does not correlated with quality of life which is so important. |

Turkey is an emerging country and a member of E8 countries. Maybe it is a second world country. |

Not really, but some areas in the country or even in big cities are seriously underdevelopped. |

No Turkey is a second world country which is because it is growing, it is a fact that it is poor now. |
|

Steve-O

Not exactly. It has low standard of living for Europe, but high for Asia. Many parts of the Asian interior (like Bursa, where I went) were old fashioned, but Turkey's not as poor as Mexico or Romania. |
