It is in both.
Istanbul is in Europe, in a part of Turkey called Thrace, but most of the country (to the East of the Bospherus) is in Asia, in the part of Turkey called Anatolia that include the capital Ankara.

Personally, I think Turkey is a continent to itself. Europe and Asia are just peninsulas off the Turkish mainland. :D

As said before it is both. But that there is controversy over Turkey's entry into the EU has nothing to do with it. Just because a country is in Europe does not mean it is part of the EU, there are certain requirements a country has to meet before they can become a part of the EU. Turkey is not a member (yet) because there are reports that police are using inappropriate force when questioning, arresting etc their citizens.

Turkey is a unique country that is located both in Europe and Asia.we say euroasia.But if you come and visit Turkey you will see that Turkey is much more european than some of the EU members in europe.
