It's for women as well.

I have no idea what it is that you want to know exactly but this gives me a chance to clear up some misconceptions.

The red light district (for sex) and coffee shops (to buy soft drugs) in Amsterdam are mainly frequented by tourists (i.e. people from other countries than Holland). The Dutch don't care that much about free drugs and free sex. It's no big deal to us, we have the option but the majority of us choose to live a quiet and normal life.

For the sex side of stuff: Not many Dutch people (men or women) would visit the red light district for sex. You get much better quality from escort services. The red light district is mainly there because it attracts a lot of tourists.

We get a lot of weirdo's from other countries visiting who think this is some sort of open air museum where they can misbehave.
English stag do's jump to mind, but I can also mention Italian teenagers or US wanna be hippies.

So why do we still offer these options? We make MONEY of you ignorant tourists :-) ROFL

The hash or grass tourists buy from the Bulldog and places like that is really inferior to what Dutch soft drug users smoke themselves. I am telling you, you are getting ripped off. You need to go outside of the capital to get quality grass or hash.

Just don't think that by going to the Bulldog, the red light district or some other place manufactured for tourists you have actually experienced the Netherlands. To experience the Netherlands, you need to get out of Amsterdam.

Now that I've gotten this off my chest, I'll crawl back under my stone ;-)

I am sure that women's sexual proclivities can be accommodated too in Amsterdam. As a city there are plenty of things for women to do. Just remember that aside of the red light district and the coffeeshops there is a fantastic city waiting to be discovered there!

Yes Amsterdam is for good for women too, any tourist information desk, when you get there, will tell you where to go (politely!!). Take in all the sites whilst you are there, it's a fantastic city, so laid back as well, everyone speaks English and you are made so very welcome. As you can tell, I love Amsterdam and have Dutch friends. If you love Thai food there are some excellent gay and gay friendly restaurants as well as cafes, brown cafes etc etc. Don't worry about the 'drug scene' it's there if you wan't it but only if you look for it.

what! its a country for everybody i was there 10years ago and yes they have a big red light district but its a beautiful place

There is a lot to see and do in Amsterdam. I think your question is referring to the "red-light" district. Perhaps this is the most famous attraction but it only forms a small part of the city. Amsterdam has some great art museums such as the Rembrandt House and the van Gogh Museum; there are always concerts and other attractions you would expect of a European capital city.

Amsterdam is great!! The red light district fascinated me. Apparently if you see a blue light in the window, then that is for women. But seeing as only men will ever pay for it, they will never pay for it!!

its for anyone. there is lots of shops snd museums but you must be careful not to get run over by a tram or bycycle. I don't smoke so it was a bit boring of an evening.
