Is it acceptable for an Egyptian guy to marry an American girl? |
He says if we did get married his dad would probably be okay with it but his mother would have 'some objection'? Do you think this would work out or should I just give up on it now?
Also: Some people have concerns that he is just trying to use me for various reasons (like a green card etc). It is hard to know this for sure, but of course who wants to believe that about someone they are beginning to care about?
We have been taking the relationship really slowly, no sex is involve which I think is really important... but I don't know if this is going to make a difference in how serious he is about me or not, anymore... We have only been dating 4 months but we have been talking about becoming 'serious' for a little while now, we just consider ourselves very good friends right now, or boyfriend/girlfriend in our own way, not the traditional 'Western' way. Additional Details I need any advice on this situation because I don't know if I should continue to pursue it or not. I don't want to waste time, be used by someone, or be hurt emotionally if I can avoid it. Maybe I am just being naive/stupid, but I believe he is sincere because he is not trying to rush anything with me...
Also I am multi-racial (White/African-American/Indian (Apache) American) if this makes any difference. |

if you have any slightest doubt on your mind about the person you plan to get married, GIVE IT UP!
Marriage is all about full mutual respect and confidence.
And yes: he's after the green card.
Pls see the movie "NEVER WITHOUT MY DAUGHTER"
and you'll see how I mean |

You are not telling us where you live. In Egypt or in the States?. Let´s say you both live in the States and have both grown up in the States. That would mean that both of you more or less would know how to handle this. You needn´t worry about the cultural differences in that case. If however he grew up in Egypt and has recently been in the States for some reason like studying than you sure are running a risc of beeing used (I´d say %50)
That´s because each and every one of us do get back to who we used to be even if we try to put on a different face for a while. Unless of course you are ready to give a fair chance to a cultural change. |

Why not? Fight and do everything for ur love.
''Religion, skin colour, language, nationality aren't important in love..Love happens with heart not with belief, nationality, skin colour etc.''
If he loves u and if u love him, then u can solve the all problems about ur relationship ;-)
*** Some Turkish men date with foreign girls for greencard or second nationality too..But these kind of people want to marry quickly. If u have been taking the relationship slowly, then I don't think ur bf is a kind of that men. |

Egyptians are not remotely related to turks. They are always willing to marry european or US chicks, whether for green card or because they like white girls-I dunno. Well, follow your gut feeling. If her mom starts complainin, just snatch her a** in a beartrap!!! |

Don't let your worries put a hell of pressure on him. Don't let him feel accused or guilty because you are American and he is Egyptian.
Set your emotions free and discuss everything with him, with an open heart with the intention of care and love.
About the green card issue, I say: You probably won't live in Egypt with him, after a short time you'll prefer to return back to USA. You have to hep him move with you, he is your husband, if you didn't help him, who on the earth would you help?!
My advice is that test his intentions, Tell him that you need to stay in Egypt for sometime, to try a new life style. See his reaction about that. Now he will reveal wether he wants to be with you, or he just needs the green card.
I'm from Alexandria/Egypt, if you want any help, email me ... I'll help you with pleasure.
Good luck! |

First, your race makes no difference. (Though I would love to see a pic, I bet you're gorgeous! sounds like a beautiful mix!)
Second, sounds like you're doing the right thing... taking it slow. I'd say continue at the pace you're proceeding... see if you can find out what kind of objections his mother would have, and write her letters to help dissolve those objections if you can.
See what your family and friends think of him if you have doubts about his intentions. Often, they see things we don't see when we are attracted to someone. And... strangely enough.... if you have a dog... check out the dog's opinion, too... dogs just *know* about people. It sounds ridiculous, but its true.
Follow your heart... but when others give their opinion, use your head. |

Egypt isn't Saudi Arabia. But, I think you need to meet his family for a better understanding of his family values, for, I'm sure there are very religious people in Egypt, too. See his parents, siblings, relatives and talk to them. Why not take a trip to Egypt if/when you get serious. You'll get to see the pyramids, too. :)
Any mother would be hard pressed to accept his son's bride. Remember the film with Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez? So, this alone doesnot determine if a marriage would work or not.
I think you need to collect some information, and then rely on your instincts. If you want a healthy and lasting relationship, "getting serious" isn't as easy as it seems in movies. |
