Is it dangerous for an American family with 2 small children to move to the Czech Republic?

We are thinking about moving in the next few years (we have friends there), but we have 2 small children...is it a safe place for children? Is it safe for small children to visit? (I get freaked out by that British kid that was kidnapped recently)

It isnt listed under the top 15 most dangerous places for Americans to visit but its no walk in the park. Most americans go there because of there easy adoption policies. Here is a gov. website that will give you medical warnings advice and additional sites to visit that may help you. travel.state.gov (Good luck...)

Your town in the Czech Republic will probably have less violent crime than any comparably sized town in the US. I'm an American ex-pat living in a large European city and I've never once been worried for my safety.

No, the CR is not a dangerous place to live in...

no country in the world is safe... but in comparison to where you're coming from (assuming the US), the CR is actually an upgrade in terms of safety...

...just check some of these stats...

why don't u ask your friends there if it's safe? they could prolly tell you better than we could.

Ahoj, do not worry about the kidnapping of the British kid - I don't think you'd go dine with firiends, leaving your children somewhere by themselves to get kidnapped.

I say, do not worry too much. Czech Republic is absolutely beautiful and I'm sure you'd enjoy visiting there. But if you move there, think about jobs - if you/your lover get one before the move then great.

Hope this helps.

Ask yourself the question: Is The United States "Safe"?

NO place is "SAFE". However, Prague is gorgeous, relatively safe (I'd find it safer than the streets of New York, for instance) - and a great experience for all of you.

Yeah, if you were suggesting moving to Baghdad, there is a measurable difference in mortality rate between there and the US. But the Czech Republic?

Go for it!

Firstly most violent crime is alcohol related. In mainland europe there tends not to be much binge drinking, people drink only when eating ect, it is a sociel drug not an escapist drug. So you are less likely to have drunken thugs about. Also about the British child, it was only high priority because of the child's nationality. if it were a Macedonian child the media would not have cared. Kidnappings go on all over the world, just because they are reported is not an indicator of frequency.
Please try and enjoy the Czech Republic, it is a beautiful country.

You're an American moving to the Czech Republic, and you're worried about a single kidnapping of a British kid in Portugal? Does that somehow negate the entire European continent? I might be wrong, but somehow I doubt that's the first time a kid's been kidnapped in Europe... or the U.S.... or anywhere else. Point blank, the Czech Republic is a safe, friendly, and great country. I loved it when I visited, and not once did I feel UNsafe. The Czechs, and their neighbors--Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Austria--are all in the EU and are all equally safe. I've been to all five countries, and then some... and I loved all of them.

Czech Republic is perhaps the gratest succes story in Post-Commuinst east Europe! You wont have any more problems that those that you may have in your own country!

The Czech Republic is as safe as any country in Europe! The capital of the country, Praque, is just one of the most beautiful cities of Europe, if no the most beautiful. I can recommend you warmly to move to this country! Take your time, if you don“t like it there, there are many other European countries you could move to. Try the Czeck Republic first, good luck
(P.S. I“m European, but not from the above country D.S.)

I wouldn't think like that. America can be a very dangerous place as well.

It depends on where you are moving, and even in which neighborhood you are moving. Try to get some local contacts who can help you find a good neighborhood.

It's dangerous for americans to move ANYWHERE these days, even in the U.S.
