Is it easy to communicate with people in Holland if you know English only?

Lilaki
Absolutely! Everybody seems to speak English there! It's amazing!

U_S_S_Enterprise
Very easy.

However, outside of the larger cities, you may run into more difficulties.
In the cities you`ll find plenty of english speakers.

You will get goodwill by trying some words in the local language (Holland has Dutch as official language)

pasanjes
Not only is it easy, it even is VERY easy....

antipodean22
Incredibley easy. Often if i try to speak dutch and they hear the accent they will start speaking to me in english.
But be polite and ask if they speak english first... don't just start talking in english at people, you might find they get a little annoyed.

chazzychef
Yes.

stlawrencepr
As an English speaking person living here in the Netherlands I can tell you that the mayority of the population speaks very proper English. But it will be handy to have a simple language guide since many restaurants have a Dutch only menu and in stores most of the products have Dutch labels. People are very polite, well educated and like to help.

ibrahim_828
yes think that everyone knows a bit of English around here

Artist
Yes, there are more people in Holland who speak both dutch and english, than in other european countries. The germans speak only german, the french only french... etc.
