"Condescending and snooty" are not the terms an old nice man (the avatar) would use.
On the top of if - he would know how to spell the "condesdcending"
Are you a troll perhaps?
And neither Russians or Germans are suffering from this malady.
Not so sure with the English but.
There are some of those "high Oxford individuals", who do speak in the manner described. |

You know what one quote says? It says ,"You see the negatives you have in others". I personally thought America was over judging people by race...but I so see that people don't change , sticking thier nose up before others. You deserve a 0 for your observation!!!!! |

No, it's just you.
Obviously you've never learned to speak another language. |

Only really met 2 Russians and they were fantastic. So, no. I've met hundreds of Germans and they are also fantastic. So, no. I've met thousands and thousands of English (I'm English) and most of them are fantastic.
I've also met hundreds of Indians (in India and the UK) and hundreds of Pakistanis and lots of Bangladeshis. They're all great(ish).
Be careful about stereotyping!
My best advice is to talk to people.
Best wishes
Pete

I don't talk in a condescending way except to people I really can't stand... Maybe it's just the people or you're being oversensitive...:/ |

I don't believe it has anything to do with being a Russian. Just just happened to meet those individual prick who thought they were everything. I don't think Russians or anyone of origin are condescending. Just so you know, I am currently dating a Russian man. He is the first Russian I've ever met, but I think he's great. His whole family are so much nicer than most Asian families I know. Trust me, I know. But really, it's not because they are Russian or Germans, or English, or whatever. Good luck. |

For many foreign speakers of English, it is hard to show their true personality because they are concentrating on the words they are using.
In many other languages, people are more formal with strangers and they may be trying to be polite by not getting too personal with you.I think you have them all wrong. |

Did you hear them speak in Russian or in English? Because if you heard them speak in Russian then how would you know if they spoke in a condescending manner? |

Well i am a British guy, married to a Ukrainian national, and i have quite a few Russian friends.,both in the UK and Russia, and Ukraine.
What i can tell you is this.
They are friendly,not snooty,
If you visit Moscow or Kiev, you will generally find people welcoming and helpful, but same as everywhere people have different personalities. |

Marylin is correct. Its mostly how it comes across from their translation combined with their intonation, which can sound snooty. I had to figure this out on my own with my wifey. |
