Is it safe for American girls (in their 20s) to travel to Athens, Greece?

Yeah, it will be safe, always safer in numbers too.
Just one thing, being greek myself and family is from Greece, be careful with your money. They have been known to try and scam americans/tourists... so count your change and let them know over charge you on things.
This is coming from a greek who has been to Greece several times, and they even try to scam my dad, and my dad is from there, lol! But they hear us speaking english and they will try their best to scam, thats why lots of tourists have been going to Turkey, b/c its cheaper and they arent being ripped off. Plus, Greek men have a wandering eye, just like the Italians.... so be on the look out for that!
Have fun, it is a beautiful country, just sucks when you go there to visit family!

I have already said, that it depends on which kind of safety you are talking about.
Concerning men, dont worry, the greeks, are not animals to the women, and they are not hungry so they dont attack any woman as sonn as they see her, one of the reason is that greek girls are among the most beautiful girls in the world.Other reason is that Greece is a touristic country, so, we always pay attention to the behavoiur towards the tourism...
BUT:Dont forget, that the situation, concerning safety and robberies, has changed a little bit lately, because of the immigration, and in this case, you must be careful in some destricts like in Omonia, or in some other places around the centre(I guess you ll be there), especially during the night.Take care of your bag, dont walk in isolated places in the late night,and dont trust anyone.
With the greeks personally you ll not have problem.As soon as you report something, people will be on your side, and we are always helpful.
Avoid as I told you the Omonia square during the night, and the destrict around it...
Have a nice travel, and enjoy it...

Of course it is safe. As long as you avoid Omonia and Metaxourgeio at night, there is no need to be afraid of anything.
Visit Thisio, Akropoli, Thisio and Lycabetus to see the monuments and you will enjoy a lot.

well based to d fact that USA ranks 1st in criminality worldwide and Greece 37th then I don't c a reason for u to feel unsafe...Just avoid the centre of Athens coz pick-pocketin may occur...Ah!and watch greek men coz most of 'em r very woman-thirsty (coz greek women r the most conservative in the planet) they will not harm u but they may become extremely annoyin..personally though i wouldn't select athens as a summer destination i would prefer the isles...but it's ok 4 2 days only.. i hope u ll have a gd time ;-)
