You will love Turkey. I lived in several cities in Turkey for years and my absolut holiday destination is Turkey. I love people, food, beaches nightlife. Everything is so beautiful.
Well, last year they burnt cars in Paris, in JFK there was an attack, in Spain there is ETA terrorist, in Corsica there is a lot of bombings, England big terrorist attacks but you people never ask before going to these places.
Why do you ask for Turkey? |
|

Totally Blunt
 |
No. I get killed every day. |
|

Qu'est ce que tu pense?
|
For goodness sakes, yes! You wouldn't believe the number of people who come and ask this question and EVERY TIME we say YES. Turkey is just as safe as any other modern country. Is it that you are just scared to leave your country or are you afraid of what people try to tell you about Turkey? Please gain some respect and understand that many countries are safe for tourists. Don't wrap yourself up in a bubble. |

Turkey is generally a safe country. It's as safe as any other European country. With one exception...
I wouldn't recommend you to rent a car. Some Turkish people have their own rules when they are driving. In Turkey, a great number of people die every year on the streets, in car or bus accidents. If you absolutely need a car be sure that it's a safe car.
I don't know anybody in Turkey who doesn't have any victim in their family. Believe me!
Some of my compatriotes won't like what I write here but it's simply the truth...
Edit:
For those who gave me a thumbs down:
In 2007 188383 people were injured and 5004 people died in car accidents in Turkey. |

From the foreign office: (see link)
* There is a high threat from terrorism in Turkey. We believe that international terrorist groups, as well as indigenous ones, are currently active in Turkey. Targets have included Mediterranean and Aegean tourist areas, Istanbul and Turkey's South East. Attacks have taken place against government and security targets, and also in restaurants, public transport and other public places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.
* Outbreaks of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) in Turkey have led to a small number of human fatalities. The last fatality was in 2006. See the Health section and the Avian and Pandemic Influenza Factsheet for more details.
* Almost 1.7 million British tourists visited Turkey in 2006 (Source: Ministry of Tourism website, http://www.tuik.gov.tr). Most visits are trouble-free. The main types of incident for which British nationals required consular assistance in Turkey in 2006 were for replacing lost or stolen passports and death from natural causes.
* We strongly recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling to Turkey. You should check any exclusions, and that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake. See the General (Insurance) section of this advice and Travel Insurance for more details. |
