TROUBLE

Is it safe to visit Istanbul in the next week...?

considering the recent attack? I would have been flying out with a large group on Monday but am seriously re-considering.

It is all very disturbing. But if you would worry too much about it, you can never travel. One can get killed in his own home by a piece of satellite junk dropping from the sky! Be optimistic.

Here's the thing.. I live in Lebanon.
And although you get like lots of stuff in the media that the country is in mess, it really isn't... and we're living.
The only problem we're facing is correlated with the worldwide economic crisis (and of course some political issues).

Now, about Turkey... you have NOTHING to worry about. Odds are the attack was the only one this year and that from now on, security will be boosted. Plus, even if another attack took place, the probability that you'd be there is very slim....
I suggest you go..!!

According to that, then you shouldn't go to New York, London, Madrid, Copenhagen... all were attacked sometime by Alqaeda.
Is there any 100% safe place in the world? You know the answer, unfortunately.
So, in my case I would re-considering seriously... to keep my plans and visit Istanbul.
After you saw it, you will know why Istanbul is I S T A N B U L (yes, in capital letters).

I think now it will be much safer than before as the anti-whatever measures will be stricter. Anyway, wherever you go you have to be careful these days. If it is not terrorists it might be an earthquake and if not that it might be a tsunami.. and the list goes on. So, be aware but don't stop living. ;)))

As other users have already said, this kind of stuff can happen everywhere. You'll be fine, you don't need to cancel your trip.

It's fine. The American Consulate is in the suburb of Istiniye which is quite far from any touristic sites that you would probably be visiting. Turkey is just as safe as any other country you might visit, so don't let an isolated incident ruin your travel plans!

The terrorist attacks will be happen every country, every city.

Why is the terrorist do that because of to spread terror so

Don`t be SCARED and they will be FAIL.

Trouble no honey it's definitely not safe especially for you. I've heard that the attackers of the consulate are looking for a Y/A contributer nicknamed TROUBLE.

i live in istanbul... i got an apartment there and i'm working. i was in izmir last year and this year in february i moved to istanbul.... its a great place, do you know i didnt even hear about an attack .... and i live there.... i been on a boat for 9 days but i'm still in turkey and i'm travelling back to istanbul tonight by bus 13 hours.
i'm from england and this is my second year now in turkey and to be honest the papers n stuff in other countries make things out to be worse than what they are, if it was bad then my friends from istanbul would have called me by now.
dont worry and just come... you'll have a great time.

I want to state that the recent attack is very minor scale in Istanbul. Fortunately it is not very professional. These kinds of attacks can happen any part of the world. The only thing makes this important that the target was USA consulate.

Secondly I want to state that because of this minor attack, Turkish Police was alarmed. Now Turkish National Intelligence is looking for new intelligence from terrorist groups. Maybe it is one of the safest moments to come Istanbul, since if there were any terrorist groups would attack, they had to wait for the convenient time. Turkish Police had much experience to deal with terrorists.

If you follow the operations of Turkish Police, you understand what I mean.

You dont have to re-consider it.

As you could see, the terrorist attacks unfortunately happen even in London, Madrid,New York, Paris, but tourists keep visiting these places anyway...

Don't worry, Turkey is safe...Much safer than Detroit or LA...

Turko
Trust me! The chances are lower than getting killed by a Greek driver in USA.
Actually this is not a joke. One of them almost killed my wife. My wife is an American.

If you have any doubts, just send me your tickets and I will send you a post card saying "what a great time I'm having"
We were in Marmaris in August a couple of years ago, when they had the bombings. On returning to the UK booked another holiday 6 weeks later.
Enjoy yourself, Don't worry.

I was just in Istanbul, and I will be going back shortly. These things happen all over the world, and its my understanding from the news that this was domestic terrorism and not really aimed at the US. It was, of course, very sad that three police officers lost their lives and I think 2 others are still recovering.

You should be fine. Just stay with your group and do all of the sensible things that people should do when they travel to a city - domestic or foreign.

nakis
no it is not. turkey is not this season a safe country. yoy can go after one or two month.
