You would not say so if you had even been to downtown Chicago! It's enough to scare you to death, really! My husband got hit by a car as we walked across the street with the light, all because the driver tried to be inpatient & pull thru ahead of us as we were crossing & clipped his hip! Then he wasn't going to even stop.I had to yell for him to stop till I could see if he was ok. This isn't a isolated incident either. My suggestion if ever there, just get in the cab & close your eyes, listen to music so you can't hear them yell at each & stay off the downtown streets! I grew up with Dallas traffic but that just freaked me totally out!
Blessings! |

That would be called a negative stereotype. It's not nice to spread negative stereotypes. |

No my best Friend Maria is Greek and she is the best driver I know she taught me how to drive she has great defensive skills I will never forget when some Guy almost lost control of his car and she saw him coming we could have both been killed parked at a light and fast she got out of the way and only the side view mirror was damaged!!!

No it isn't. In fact they are very good drivers considering the conditions they drive in. If an American would drive in Greece in places like Athens or through roads that cars can hardly pass and drive at the same speed, they would probably get hurt.
The drive dangerously and that is true.
Here in the US where streets are wide enough to drive, every day there is an accident and it is because they are terrible drivers. |

When I was in Greece, I didn't notice driving that looked any less safe than in any other European country, or than America for that matter.
The worst driving I've seen has been in France (I live here) and India. |

Greeks are "perky" drivers. They like to drive lively and take risks.
But then the streets in Greece are such that you have to be fully aware where you are going. If you have to park in a side street and bend the side mirror, then you get the idea what kind of streets they are driving in.
The driving exams in Greece are more challenging than, say, in USA.
How many people is USA and other countries were asked to back up and park uphill all this while driving standard?
Everybody is required to drive standard in Greece and often in very steep mountain roads. Is not easy and not many of my friends who drive in US would be able to do it.
So I take pride in myself and my husband that we both drive standard, so when we go to Greece we can keep up with the "real" drivers in the "real"roads.
As I always tell my kids about driving in Greece: Dont try this at home. It can cause permanent phobia, loss of appetite and blurry vision.
On a second thought..nah,it will cause just blindness |

Lets say they are not the best.
They are careless and they don't follow the driving rules as much as they should.....
They are not teribble...A little crazy for sure.... |

I love the challenge of driving in Greece, it definitely increases your adrenaline. Driving amongst the greek drivers is not for everyone. Sometimes, you have to drive with no street lighting, sheep crossing the dirt roads, possibly falling off a steep mountain, inclines you've never driven on before, falling rocks, etc,... The drivers can tend to be crazy, but then again, I can't say that they drive terrible, since they can maneuver their vehicles quite masterfully, even if they do break the rules a bit. This does not mean they are bad drivers. They could definitely teach a survival driving course as opposed to the defensive driving courses. |

They are not very careful drivers, you could say that. But they are not that terrible either.
In general Greeks like to 'break' rules', they like feeling free. This tends to faint at the new generation. |

Yes, it's true! Totally true! It's like in that cartoon, you can't be sure you'll cross the street with your head on your shoulders. Every time I go to Athens, I dread crossing the street and driving in a taxi.
The only worse place with worse drivers is Istanbul. Now, that's chaos! |
