Is it true that hundred of Jewish European people could escape from the Nazis thanks to the help of Turkey?

I heard that even Albert Einstein had to leave his country ( Germany) and then was welcomed by the Turkish governement. And so he could escape from death.
And later, he finally moved to the USA.

It seems that there were hundred of Germans,Austrians, etc who could be saved thanks to Turks' hospitality.

Is that true?

Yes that's true.

But that is not the only example Turks welcomed people running away from cruelty along the history. Let me give you some examples:

* In 1505 christian Spanish were so cruel against Muslims and Jews. They asked help from Turks. Ships sent and refugees were taken to Anatolia around Adana,Tarsus. They were given places to settle.

*On 1849 about 5000 Hungarian and Polish fleed to Turkish lands. Despite of war treats of Russia and Austria, Turks didn't handover the refugees.

*After Russian revolution, ten thousands of Belarussians were welcomed to Turkey, between 1917-1921.

*Thousands of Jews running away from Hitler regime were hosted in Turkey.

* In 1979 after Iran Islam revolution, the first place to flee for contrary siders were Turkey.

*Again in 1979 4000 afghans were taken care of in Turkey whom ran away from Russian invasion.

* During 1st Gulf war, thousands of Iraqis running away from Saddam, were hosted in Turkey.

This is an endless list. Turkey were always there to do whatever they can.

there were actually thousands of Jews fleeing Turkey during the WWII. Einstein was invited to come and make his researches in Turkey by Inonu, the President of Turkey at the time, but the offer he got from America was even better and America was safer than Turkey for the possible invasion of Nazis, so he turned down Turkey for America. But some of his Jewish colleagues did move to Turkey by means of Einstein`s reference to Inonu.

here you can read an article about the Jewish scientists who fleed to Turkey in the WWII, and you can also see the original letter of Einstein to Inonu asking for the acceptance of his friends to Turkey.
http://hnn.us/articles/31946.html

aside from that, the Turkish ambassadors in Germany and France saved thousands of Jews by arranging fake Turkish passports for them. Namik Kemal Yolga who was the Turkish ambassador in Paris at the time is known as the Turkish Schindler. well in fact he saved more Jews than Schindler did. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nam%C4%B1k_Kemal_Yolga
There are still Jews living in Istanbul who moved to Turkey with these passports back in those days.

watch the documentary "Desperate Hours". It`s a Turkish-American-Israeli production dealing with the issue.

Crazygirl, you`re possibly wrong about the consentration camps. Hitler never asked for consentration camps in Turkey. In fact, this is the first time Im hearing such a thing. That would be absurd for a neutral country.

To Alana DAVARness, educate yourself, read about the nazi-armenian collaboration in the WWII.
here we go http://www.tallarmeniantale.com/Nazi-Collaboration.htm

To the PKK terrorist trolling in the section. Turks have never supported nazis, you can`t even show any single proof but can only make baseless accusations, that`s what you`re all about.

Yes, many jewish people escape to Nazi's to Turkey. And there were many scientists in them. They also worked in our universities . They helped to grow up our education quality.

I don't like to say ''we saved their lives''. Lets say ''they become our guest and teacher''.

We are still reading their books and respect them.

Indeed it is. When the retired Turkish Ambassador to France (WW II) died last year, the Israeli government sent a representative to his funeral. Also Jewish communities attended his funeral showing their respect and grief at his lost. During the war, this gentleman provided many Jews with Turkish passports and helped them escape from Hitler to Turkey.
He did (and the Turkish government did) what every civilized human being should have done.

i didn't know about Albert Einstein, but I know that Turkey did opened its arms to those Jewish people. I also know that Hitler wanted our current president to build concentration camps(which we would not do), and because we didn't want to be involved in the war, the president was like, " Yeah, O K....I guess..." And then he never build them. I even know Hitler even kind of pressured him because there are and were many Jews in istanbul and stuff, but there was never even a plan about it. And yes, back to the point, turkey did welcome the Jews that escaped and either gave them a home or a road to go to safety... Most moved to Israel, some flew, and some stayed...
It is a very good part of our history...

Totally Blunt
It is also true that Jews keep an accurate history of their people and never give credence to lies invented by trolls whose examples we see in this section.

Even if individual European histories donot choose to remember who persecuted them when and where, they remember.

I have witnessed this in person during a conference in Istanbul. I didn't know the level of goodwill from Jews to Turks until then.

I just hope we will deserve their trust in the future, too.

Türgüt
yes is true. the turks are not racist if you have money.

Is also true that the Turks were working with the Nazis. During WWII they were neutral while the nations of the world were fighting against Nazism and Fascism.

Isn't also true that today
turks deny the atrocities
their government committed
against Armenians, Greeks,
and Azyrians....2.5 million
people were murdered because
of their religion during WWI.
I am sure you can relate.
