Is it true that workers in France get one month paid vacation??

I read this somewhere and I was wondering if it were true. Oh, I wish.

The french workers have 5 weeks of vacation paid minimum per years

As people have said, it's more like 5-6 weeks. Plus they get all the catholic holidays like the Assumption, and if any hoiday falls on the Thursday or Tuesday, they get an automatic 4-day weekend. By the same token, if a holiday falls on a weekend, they're out of luck - no Monday or Friday off to compensate.

If you go to Paris in August, you will have a hard time finding Parisians - they are all on vacation.

Annick J
Sort of. In France, 8 weeks vacation is typical and for those in the lower income bracket, the government pays for part of that vacation. As a result, the money gets reinvested in France's tourism industry because those in the lower income brackets don't usually travel very far. France also has higher unemployment and so having people work less hours means that there is more work to go around. It's just a different way of tackling problems.

I'm not sure about France, but most Germans get 6 weeks paid vacations.

Darren J
er, I'm in the UK, and I get 5 weeks paid holiday a year too.

Quite probably.
In the UK, most people get four weeks plus bank holidays.

Yes and a 35 hour work week. That's why the USA is so much more prosperous. It's not hard to figure out. In Norway, if you have a child, the mother gets 9 months paid leave and the father gets 4 months. At least that might make the father want to stay around to help raise the little tike.

Even better! In Zambia, the men don't work at all! They get drunk all day and the women work. Sounds like a liberal Utopia to me!

Not only that but they get paid days off when they're sick or are moving.

6 weeks actually, a few years ago they all took off and left 15,000 elderly people in sweltering houses to die. Great health system eh.
