Under European law you can travel on your country's I.D. cards, but if you are going to be staying on a more permanent basis you are required to obtain a passport as you will need it when you register for work in the UK.
I have many Polish friends who travel to the UK on their Polish I.D. card in fact my sister-in-law who is 16 has just come back from school exchange trip to Holland and has no passport as she was told it is not necessary.
P.S. Please do not listen to my ignorant fellow Brits as most of them know absolutely nothing when it comes to travelling.
These people are one of the reasons that I decided to move to Poland where the people are of a much more polite nature.
Have fun on your travels and just to be 100% sure check the info with your local passport office as there is so much disinformation here. |

As a citizen of European Union you don't need a passport. Your ID card will be enough. |

ID card will be fine. People from Slovakia also use them to travel, so I don't see why Poland should be any different. If you wanted to live here, it would be better for you to have a passport though. |

Most Europeans use ID to travel all around Europe. A passport is not required. In the UK for us, seen as we do not have ID cards as yet, we need a passport to travel to the rest of Europe. I would think that ID card is sufficient to come to the UK |

From the British Embassy in Warsaw website:
Useful information for Poles going to the UK
Polish citizens do not require a visa to go to the UK for any purpose and they can study, work and visit the UK without entry clearance. Poles can travel to the UK with a valid passport or ID (new or old type).
All the best! |

You will need a passport to enter the UK, it doesn't matter where you are travelling from. |

You cannot cross borders anywhere in the world without a passport, unless it is an internal border. Each sovereign state requires those entering the state to present a current passport at immigration control. You will not be allowed across the Polish border without a current passport and you certainly will not get into the UK without a passport, unless you travel illegally. |

Neither Poland nor the UK (which includes England) have signed the Schengen Agreement. |
