Train travel is definitely worthwhile both environmentally and as a means of enjoying the journey. This is the BEST website for train travel in Europe. Enjoy!

Rail travel is always pleasanter than flying - but clearly it will take longer and unfortunately cost more (unless you are in the habit of flying business class!). With Eurostar and French 'TGVs' from Paris you can travel remarkably quickly. You could get to Spain in a day, assuming an early start from London. These trains travel at over 180 MPH. 1st class will cost about half as much again - worth it if you are not counting the pennies. |

I would recommend rail for shorter distances .. but from UK to Spain? .. in that case I would go for a budget airline, save much time |

We always travel by rail within Europe - and we love it! First class is nice but if you're budget-conscious there's no need to spend the extra money. Second class is just fine - really!
Have a wonderful trip! |

Rail travel is preferable to air travel in Europe, in my opinion. It's easier, and you actually get to see the country you're traveling through, as opposed to just flying over it. It takes longer than a flight, but if you factor in all the waiting time at the airport, you pretty much break even. Europe's rail system is fantastic. 1st class not really necessary...spend the extra money at a fabulous restaurant or an extra day of touring or something worthwhile. |

As long as you have time then rail travel is much more comfortable and hassle free.It may take a bit longer but you can enjoy the scenery on route.Whislt in Spain you will notice how cheap it is,an upgrade to 1st class is not much more and why not treat yourself. |

Rail is only viable for medium and short distances. UK to Spain by rail will take you approx. 24 hours and cost more than flying. On the other hand, if you stop to look at the cities on the way there, it's the ideal way of travelling.
2nd class on the french TGVs is comfortable enough. |
