Deffinitely not 3rd world. Although there are still things like corruption that exist, these countries have greatly developed since the fall of communism. There are still very poor people but also very VERY rich people that have proffited from the semi-democracy (where they could still get away with making a lot of money). You see more ferraris, lamborghinis, mercedes, etc. in capitals like bucharest & kiev than in most american cities. |

They were actually considered to be second world countries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_World) but are now seen as first world countries since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Their economic and social situations combined are far better than most Third world countries. |

Yes, Rengim is right. |

No. Since the 1990s, Second World countries situated in Central Europe are considered part of the First World. |

They are part of the EU now which means they are part of the richest lot.
The EU being richer than the USA in case you don't get it.
But yeah, thus far they haven't been that well off but I'd say never as bad as some African countries.
For instance, there are dentists in Ukraine that will work way better than what you can find in the UK and at a fifth of the price.
It is that or the huge number of Brits going to get their teeth fixed in Ukraine are all morons.
I don't think a third world country has dentists that you can trust. |

No they considered second world countries. The term "Second World" is a phrase that was used to describe the Communist states within the Soviet Union's sphere of influence or those countries that had centrally-planned economies.Along with "First World" and "Third World", the term was used to divide the nations of Earth into three broad categories. The term has largely fallen out of use since the end of the Cold War. The other two 'worlds' are more talked about, although "First World" countries are now typically referred to as "developed country" and "Third World" has been replaced with "developing country".Since the 1990s, "Second World" countries situated in Central Europe are considered part of the "First World", while their Asian counterparts (and Cuba) are regarded as "Third World" countries. |

Depends on your definition. Nowadays, thirld world is supposed to mean developing and 1st world is developed. Anybody with nominical economic education understands that those two countries do not have developed economies or stable finances. So they are third world countries. There are in fact 4 countries in Africa with higher GDP per head than Ukraine. and the EU is not richer than the USA. |

Ukraine is definately not!!!!! a third world country.
Anyone who has been to Ukraine will tell you that.
