For a booming economy, Russia has highly developed organised crime, and there has been very little success in dealing with this crime.
A contrast would be china, where there is little organised crime, in the mafia sense and corruption is contoled by the state rather than the criminals.
Why does the mafia exist in russia, perhaps because to get things done in russia you needed to be criminal or corrupt. So obviously, with a free market economy, corruption became a business. |
