Is there a turkish novel or/and movie you would like to see as an Hollywood studios version? Which one? Why?

I noticed that recently several stories of french, chinese and japanese books/movies were bought and adapted by Hollywood studios.

Do you think that some turkish movies and /or novels should also be adapted in new movies with Hollywood studios/directors/screenplaywriters ?

Which one and why ?

hollywood was going to make a story about ataturk, they had antonio banderas cast as the lead, but opposition from (guess who) some lovely greeks and armenians scared him of the project.

these days i swear, these people live thier lives for the sole reason of undermining anything turkish.

Memed My Hawk ( Ince Memet ) By Yasar Kemal

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087706/

Synopsis : In 1920s Turkey, a young peasant is smitten with a beautiful young girl, who has been promised in marriage to the fat, dullard cousin of the province's powerful and corrupt governor. When an assassination attempt is made against the official, the young man flees his village and joins up with a group of outlaws fighting against the wealthy and powerful landowners who control the lives of the locals and make life miserable for them. The outlaws' successes prompt the governor to call in the Turkish army to capture or kill them.

.. It was a such o good story with talented actors like Sir Peter Ustinov

Kaşağı by Ömer Seyfettin

I recommend not to read the summary (if you want only the first 2-3 lines). It's said that this is a book for kids but I wouldn't recommend it for them.. It's pretty tough.

The book itself is a classic.

My selections are:
Ayşe Kulin's "Adı Aylin", "Füreya" and "Veda"
(Aylin's life is soo interesting that I believe it will be a big hit if adopted to a movie. And Cate Blanchett for Aylin please)

Buket Uzuner's "Kumral Ada, Mavi Tuna" (Mediterranean Waltz)
Also some novels by Kürşat Başar, Hıfzı Topuz, Mario Levi and Ahmet Ümit.

Cristian Mocanu
"My Name is Red" and "Snow" both by Nobel-prize winning author Orhan Pamuk. I often thought that especially the 1st one would make a very good movie of the non-commercial kind. Both are novels, of course, and, to my knowledge, have not been screenplayed as yet, not even in Turkey.

I agree with one of the above answerers. I think Benim Adim Kirmizi would be a good choice. As much as I don't like the author's use of the language, I must admit it has a really good plot.

"Mutluluk" by Livaneli is a great book. There has been a film made. I haven't seen it but if it's half as good as the book it beats most Hollywood blockbusters hands down.

Like Greeting... said, the Ottoman Empire gives plenty of war and adventure stuff.

But I would like to see the Kara Murat series. :DDD Don't laugh! Hollywood means beautiful girls and adventure. Think of the Conan the Barbarian! Do you seriously think they could make a good Atatürk or an İnce Memet movie? Personally, I don't. But I would give the British a chance.

Edit: Hey, I would like to add the Neşeli Günler, but I doubt they have the equivalent of Münir Özkul and Adile Naşit, may they rest in peace.

I have never read a Turkish novel but one of my favourite books is "Anne simainei mana"( anne means mother) about two mothers a Greek and a Turk one...

Really touching and strong book

well, i dont want them as hollywood movies. thay should keep being taken as european movies. Hollywood makes just commercial movies.

and about midnight express.. they say that, it was based on a true story. But do you know the owner of the story is living in Turkey? And in a tv program, he told that, he didnt tell the story like that! It was completely digressed. Anyway, if the movie was right, he would never come back to Turkey right? But he still lives here!

And arabian nights.. i dont know that movie, but my advice is not to prejudice, to come and see. ensure that your mind will change.Turkey is completely different from middle eastern countries. First of all, our roots are coming from central asia, we have much more common values with central asia and balkans. not with middle east!

and please watch some real Turkish movies. some examples:
Im Juli
Gegen die wand
Babam ve oglum
zincirbozan

if u want more examples, just message me..

kulla
Kemal Sunal and Åžener Åžen movies.they were legends world must know.

Allan D is GAME OVER
They should shoot the new version of MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, with Brad Pitt, Robert de Niro and, Kiefer Sutherland, Morgan Freeman and Jackie Chan!!!

Dr White
Theres already a movie about Turkey, its called Arabian Nights. Its an old movie and it was released in 1942 but even though it was made so long ago it still captures that Middle Eastern feel that Turkey has had since the beginning of time and still has to this day. Its timeless and it hasnt changed since Turkey will always be in the Middle East
