Yep, part of Turkey is indeed a part of Europe. But a much larger part of Turkey is part of Asia, The small European part is the piece of land to the north-west of Istanbul, up as far as the borders with Greece and Bulgaria. The much larger part to the south and east of Istanbul is in Asia. The border between Europe and Asia runs down the Bosphorus, the river that divides Istanbul in two. Here endeth the geography lesson ;-)

OK, you asked because of travel insurance options. DO CHECK WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY but most travel insurance policies (in my experience) do include the whole of Turkey as part of Europe. You will PROBABLY be covered by a European policy. Good luck and enjoy Turkey - it's a great place!

It's at the crossroads of Europe and Asia so part in Europe, part in Asia. I would verify how this is handled with your travel agent.

MrKP
A very small part of it (NW) is in Europe. The dividing line between Europe and Asia is the Bosphorus river, which passes through Istanbul.

kinda its a euroasian country

Mr Rosenkrantz
I would imagine that travel insurance would cover those countries in the European Union, or those countries (like Switzerland) that have protocols that simulate EU inter-border agreements. I doubt Turkey would come under this.

apple e. m
Yes a part of it is part of Europe! On the European side of the Bosphoros Bridge is part of Europe. The other side is part of Asia.

Rolyn eto
Well, their football team plays in the European Championships....so they must be.

murphywingedspur
It is considered to be Eastern European....but is not yet part of the E.U.

Luke
Yes it is, in both Europe and Asia.

and makabi tel aviv from israel plays to european basketball championship, does this make it European???dont confuse politics with sports....

cyberleo
Noway, only the part where Insatbul is placed is european, the rest of Turkey is asian. That's 100% sure.
