It is true that in Greece the turists are named KOROIDA (suckers)?

edoardo_visconti
Absolutely no. As in any profession, there are good and bad professionals among people involved in the turist business. But the majority of them are kind, eager to render their good services, and they respect turists, as Greeks may sometimes be nasty to other Greeks, though they respect hospitality.

Unlikely, the typical slur the Greeks use is Malaka.

hard_n_tender26
No, its not true. However we usually call this way some people who ask some silly questions like this one.

*~£fi~*
only the greek tourists...and theyre not named suckers,,,,they ARE suckers,,,for they pay double wht a foreigner would pay whn it comes to hotels n stuff

xesemesa
No, tourists are an important part of our economy but there are still few shop owners who call them koroida as you said because they can't recognize the value of money here. But just because some are rude it doesn't mean we are all the same. Remember when we go to other countries we're tourists too.

Yes. But the word tourist is already a negative one all over the world. In every country we all use the expression: " this restaurant is for tourists" or "this area is touristic" and we imply the average tourist that eats anything, buys anything e.t.c.

Greece is no different here. Being smart and not falling into this category largely depends on you.

Leonarda
God, who said that?Greece is a touristic country, and people who come are so satisfied that they come again and agaon.
Certainly, there are bad educated persons, people who were with the goats before, and suddenly got money from tourism, and they obtained so much money, and they think that they have the right to insult. But this is rare, dont worry..Mostly, people are very helpful, and the sense of hospitality is so high...

God God! They live of tourism and say for tourists that?! I first hear of you this, but I believe you, because I resive too many hate and arrogant messages by greeks.

Um yes for various reasons.I don't think that tourists should be called that way although many times the owners of shoppers take advantage of them.
I like tourists as long as they don't pollute the places (because I've seen tourists throwing rubbish and then they act like what's the problem I am not gonna come back, let the Greeks do the cleaning)If you are plannning to come to Greece be aware of the fact that the Greekshave the lowest salary in the whole Europe and the shops with the most expensive prices so summer is the time for us to take advantage .We are good people anyway.

Yes! Because they buy whatever they see.
And usually in Greece the tourist shops rise the prises when they see tourists.
So yes they are suckers.
