Presently, it is part of Romania. If you ask a Romanian about Transylvania, they'll tell you it was always part of Romania and they're glad to finally have it back from Hungary. And if you ask a Hungarian about Transylvania, they'll tell you that once upon a time, it belonged to Hungary and one day it will once again belong to Hungary. |

it is in romania. let me inform you more what`s going on now: the dracula castle was under the romanian government during communism, after, in restitution they had to return it as a heritage to the former family. and they did. now, family decided to sell it so they proposed to the romanian government price 66 million USD. they said it is too much so the castle was bought by an US. private company - not known for a double price. now the romanians are fighting whose fault was it.... jajaja btw must see |

Transylvania is a geographic region comprising the northwestern third of Romania (and subsequently is the region bordering Hungary). In earlier periods it was annexed by Hungary, and to this day is where most of Romania's biggest minority--Hungarians--still live. Romania only regained Transylvania this past century, much to the chagrin of some of their Hungarian neighbors. It was also where many of Romania's resident German population lived, although their numbers were significantly reduced after the second World War. Most people only even know the name "Transylvania" because of Vlad Tepes, more famously known as Dracula, but Vlad was not a vampire--that was a fantasy written in Englishman Bram Stoker's book, who was inspired by Vlad's bloody reign as a Romanian prince. (Vlad was known as "the Impaler" because he was famous for impaling invading Turks on spikes, during the time in history when the Ottomans were invading the Balkans). You can still visit Bran Castle, also known as Dracula's Castle, but in reality Vlad himself spent very little of his life there... nonetheless, it's still worth a visit. Transylvania isn't a place riddled with vampires, as some more ignorant people might think, but it's a beautiful part of a beautiful country. |
