Kurds living in Turkey.? |
why is it that kurds living in turkey are not accepted?
look don't get me wrong but, i know a couple of people (turks) who think its strange for a kurd to call turkey its homeland.
however, kurds have been living in turkey for almost centuries, many have blood and sweat in those lands, yet are discriminated by SOME turks who confuse kurds with pkk sympathisers.
is this the same for the western world?
do the majority fo the people living in European countries also confuse pkk and kurds?
tar
xx
Additional Details gwen, that werent my point, would you please re read my question?
i asked WHY there is a sterotype of kurds supporting the PKK?
this is NOT true as many of the PKK supports are SUNNI kurds, very different from the ALEVI kurds. why is it that people genrealise kurds into supporting this terrorist organisation.
secondly, why doesnt SOME turks accept that kurds are also from turkey?
i mean after all, didnt kurds fight during ww1 and ww2? during the ottoman empire? |

Our 8th president, late Turgut Ozal (died in 1993) had a Kurdish descent. There were AND still are many senators who had a Kurdish descent in Turkish Parliament. So, we don't have a problem with Kurds and they don't have with us.
BUT...
Some Kurds (PKK) who want their own land (they haven't had any in history, btw) started terrorist attacks in early 80's. Of course it can be said that there are some foreign intelligence agencies involved but withot proof, it's only a conspiracy theory. ;)
We have lost over 30.000 people in 25 years. Not only soldiers but civilians, teachers, children... They attacked schools, farms, factories etc. They sent suicide bombers to major cities, especially to tourism zones.
Within years the meaning of PKK turned to "all the Kurds" and a hate evolved. And PKK easily brainwashes the ignorant people in south-east and they become a "enemy of the state" immediately. We have to differ these two.
As of PKK's desire to have their own land... They can have, of course but they can not take a single piece of Turkish soil!
Turkey's borders are fixed. Period!
And what about being strange for a Kurd calling Turkey "homeland"? He/She is basically a Kurd who lives in Turkey and have a Turkish citizenship! He/She can say "I'm Kurd", no one forbids it!
One more thing. Kurds aren't the only minority living in Turkey.
Regards.
Volkan (Turkey)
PS: Augustus, you're a lost soul! :) You think Turks classifies Kurds because of their looks, eh? It's obvious that you have NO idea what's going on here. What you wrote is pure racism, I think. I can only say, don't think that Turks are like you! Capisce? |

It is not the Kurds, but Kurdish demands of autonomy from the central government, that is not accepted. There is obviously ethnic tension in Turkey, because of the long history of Kurdish rebellion against the central government on one hand, and Turkish attempts to assimilate Kurds into the mainstream Turkish culture on the other hand. However, saying that "Kurds are not accepted in Turkey" is a gross oversimplification. So is dividing Kurds into "good Kurds" and "PKK sympathizers". It is a bit more complicated than that. I imagine that most Kurds in Turkey sympathize with the PKK to a certain extent (which is not surprising, given the brutal history of Turkish oppression against Kurdish identity), but don't necessarily condone their violent actions.
And FYI, Turkey did not fight in WW2. |

They are not treated as foreigners. This is just misinformation. Just a short visit to Turkey will reveal the situation. We had/have and will have Kurdish presidents, prime ministers, members of the parliament, ministers, soldiers, film stars, singers, pop stars, doctors, businessmen/businesswomen, diplomats, intellectuals, writers..........The list goes on. We are like brothers. We share the same lands for centuries. And yes, they call these lands homeland, sure, what else they can call it? How can a certain group of people become presidents of a country in which they are treated as foreigners? Does this sound logical? |

Inherently wrong and vehemently misleading postulate of your question render us no chance for giving you a proper reply...
but only leave us with the sole option to think that you're posing this meaningless question just to spread a baseless hatred |

Yes,Kurds should have thier own country, the problem is thier demands on land which they think they are entitled to.
I believe and want Kurds to set up thier own place, but that doesnt change the fact that Kurdish society is very dangerous in itself.Dont have any illusions,Kurds MURDER other kurdish tribes if they dont conform to what they say.The PKK try to recruit the children of Kurdish familes promising money and protection if they do,which is all lies, they just want more bodies on the front line against the Turkish army.
I want Kurds to have thier own country for good reasons, but most of the enemies of Turkey just enjoy pointing their hypocritical fingers at Turks and shouting at them to free the oppressed Kurds.
Can i ask Americans to give up 1/4 of America for the Indians then? Its exactly the same thing. How about Austrailia to? the Aboriginals lived thier whole lives in mudhuts like kurds yet noone bats an eyelid to them do they?
The masses of Kurds support the PKK,especially in western countries, they openly support them,in london there was a rally of support for the PKK to.The kurds have noone else, they have no choice to support the PKK.
Turks did accept kurds, thats why the government tried to absord them into turkish culture, but the kurds resisted. This is why i will support the creation of a Kurdistan outside Turkish borders.
EDIT
Iv got nothing against kurds who live peaceful lives in turkey,i consider them turkish, just from a different background, like a jewish turk or a turk living in another country, aslong as they wave the turkish flag they are turks to me.Im saying that there should be a kurdistan for the millions of kurds who dont want to be part of turkey. |

Kurds should have an independent, sovereign Kurdistan. For centuries, their land has been swallowed up by lands enclosed in borders artificially created by empires and mandates. |

I admit it, I am a Turkish woman and Augustus is my troll account. With my questions I am trying to make Europeans look stupid and racist and present the Turks as the victims of this racism. |

My question is how can Turks even tell who is a Kurd and who isnt. They both look Middle Eastern, have a Middle Eastern culture and they're both Muslim so Turks cant use the excuse that real Turks look white and have a different culture than Kurds. Its not like in European countries where you can tell right away who is a gypsy because they look and act so much different than the pure white native locals of (insert pure white European country here) that you cant do in Turkey. Turks might as well just accept Kurds as part of their country because no one is going to know the difference between them anyway. I bet not even Turks can tell the difference but its a reality they arent ready to face. They're only fooling themselves if they think theres a difference |
