Language in Southern Portugal...?

On the mainland, (Faro) what kind of Portuguese do people generally speak? Is it the same as the islanders or is it like Brazilian Portuguese?

In Faro Portuguese speak Portuguese, like in any other place in Portugal . If you are talking about idiomatic expressions, then you can bet they are different, but for a foreigner that makes no difference.

Giuliano
Normal portugues. Obviously each city has it's dialect, but we all speak normal portuguese

LOL

Why on earth would people in Faro speak brazilian-portuguese????????????????????...

Jesus...

TioArturo
Of course they speak portuguese as they do in all the country. Some words can change but if you speak portugese fine you will understand them easilly.

They speak "normal" Portuguese like everybody on this country lol

If you go to Brazi, you'll hear "brazilian portuguese"

In Faro expect to find the "normal" Portuguese language.

Faro is a nice and touristic city, and I guess most of the portuguese people living there, can speak english cause they are really used to have a lot of tourists :)

Hope you have a nice day

Ana C
still portuguese, of course, accents vary according to regions.
as you wrote, brazilian portuguese is from brazil!!!!!

We all speak the same language with just a few variations, example: In the USA do they speak the same english in all states or in England do they speak the same all around the country?

LOL
Why would the algarvios speak brazilian portuguese? Hahahahahaha and the accent in Faro has nothing to do with those spoken in the islands - Madeira archipelago or Azores archipelago - and between Madeira archipelago and Azores archipelago it´s huge the difference of accents, even between the islands in Azores there´s a big difference between accents.

in mainland protugal they speak european portuguese...it is the original portuguese dialect from the original latin language...
in madiera and azores (my family comes from azores), they still speak portuguese but with a type of slang and mainlanders can pick it up and know they are not mainlanders.
in brazil they speak brazillian portuguese. it is a little more different and they have incorpoated some spanish words as they are completely surrounded by spanish speaking countries in south america, so there is a huge influence.
if you get a brazillian portuguese and a regular portuguese dictionary, you will see the differences in pronounciations and words used in brazil but not in portugal, and vice-versa!
but the root language is the same, it is still portuguese =)
it is like in the u.s they will call a large truck a "trailor" or simply a "truck" but in england they call it a "lorry." and then in australia they have a whole vocabulary of their own words...however they still speak english! as people immigrate and travel they take their languages with them but after a time their langauges come under pressure from the native languages of the country they are now in and you will find little by little their langauge changing.
in bermuda (where i am from and where thousands of azoreans have lived since the 1840's) you will hear them speaking portuguese but with english words all mixed in with it as bermuda is a native english speaking country =)
hope i explained that well enough!!!

There are approximately ten million people living in Portugal
and each and everyone speak it's own version of Portuguese.

Aren't we good or what?
